After 10 years, solar power will compete with fossil

According to the forecast of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) solar power can compete modern energy from fossil fuels, but this will happen no earlier than 10 years. In the next 10 years, photovoltaic panels will become more efficient, affordable and powerful, experts conclude.

"We believe that solar photovoltaic panels will be able to fundamentally change the rules of the game. No other source of alternative energy has the same potential. If the cost of solar power will continue to decline, we see a tremendous rate of penetration of these sources in the market. It can be assumed that sales growth will be limited to only offer "- said James Prendergast, executive director of the IEEE.

The report says that solar energy is the most abundant and affordable energy resources of the planet. The sun emits every second on the planet about 100 petawatt, and for today's energoptrebnostey requires much less — only 15 terawatts (1 petawatt is 1,000 TWh).

However, today the organization sees two major problems constraining solar power from full competition with fossil fuels. One of the problems is the high cost takiz panels, the other — their relatively low efficiency. However, both problems are solved and the IEEE expects that developers will cope with them over the next 10 years.
