Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree on introduction to the State Duma a draft law on the environmental protection of Lake Baikal. Relevant documents are available on Tuesday at the government website.
According to the draft federal law "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation on the Baikal natural territory", it is proposed to prohibit the construction, expansion and renovation of commercial facilities without a positive conclusion of the state ecological expertise.
"The bill proposes a ban on the disposal of waste production and consumption I — III hazard class in the central ecological zone of the Baikal natural territory and disposal within adjacent to Lake Baikal water protection zone," — said in reference to the document.
Also expects to pass a bill to establish the boundaries of protection and fisheries protection zone of Baikal exclusively to the Government of the Russian Federation.
