Giant asteroid Cleopatra flies to Earth

Asteroid "Cleopatra", comparable to the size of the State of New Jersey, changed the trajectory
Brazilian astronomers have stated that one of the most harmless asteroids "Cleopatra" could threaten our planet.
In particular, the scientists say that the celestial body dramatically changed the trajectory. It can make a collision with the Earth in the next few months. Reported by the portal "Observer".
Asteroid 216 "Cleopatra" has a size of 217 kilometers across (this is comparable to the size of the U.S. state of New Jersey ") and its shape resembles a bone. It was opened in the nineteenth century Austrian astronomer Johann Palizoy.
Astronomers believe that the unusual shape of the asteroid due to the fact that it was formed by coalescence of two large fragments of asteroids. Their collision could occur at any time during the past 4.5 billion years.
The orbit of the asteroid is located between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, writes portal Astronet. Recently asteroid "Cleopatra" has undergone a thorough inspection of the radar by reflecting radio waves. Analysis allowed the astronomers assume that the celestial body is composed mainly of metals such as nickel and iron.
Surface of the "Cleopatra" is a collection of loosely-coupled ice and stone rubble, although the kernel can and an important one magnet. Until recently, astronomers believed that the asteroid will never collide with Earth.
