4.9 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of New Zealand

New ZealandEarthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred on Friday near the south-eastern coast of New Zealand's South Island, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
According to seismologists, the epicenter of the earthquake was 38 kilometers from the city of Gisborne, its center lies at a depth of 62 kilometers.
Information about the victims, the destruction and the threat of a tsunami, has been received.
A month ago, a devastating earthquake nearly leveled the center of Christchurch city on the North Island of New Zealand. Many buildings were destroyed, the central cathedral, several areas are uninhabitable. According to seismologists, the epicenter of the 6.3 magnitude earthquake was located in the vicinity of the city. More than 240 people were killed or missing in the quake.
Economic damage to the elements, is estimated at $ 15 billion. Prime Minister John Key described the earthquake as "the most tragic event" in the history of the country.
