Russia and India will release 205 multifunctional transportAircraft Indian state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and Russian United Aircraft Company signed a contract for the creation 205 functional military transport aircraft MTS (Functional Transport Plane, or Multi-Role Transport Aircraft, MTA). According to a press release from the KLA, a contract was signed between the company "UAC-Transport Aircraft" and HAL. It involves the design and development of a new transport aircraft.

Aircraft will be engaged in the creation of a joint Russian-Indian venture Multirole Transport Aircraft Limited (MTAL). As expected, the Russian Air Force will accept into service 100 new transporters. The need for the Indian Air Force in such aircraft is estimated to be 45 units, and the remaining 60 will be delivered by MTS for export. Prospective buyers are still not named.

A basic agreement to develop a transporter was signed between HAL and UAC in September 2010. Under the terms of the document, the parties have to invest in the project to 300 million dollars. With all this creation MTS will expand and in Russia, and India. The structure of the Indian Air Force new plane will have to change the kind of outdated An-32.

Expected promising freighter make the first flight in 2017, and its serial creation scheduled to begin in 2019. According to preliminary data, the MTS will be able to perform short take-off and landing and transport loads weighing up to 20 tons. MTS will be able to fly at speeds up to 800 km per hour at a distance of 2.5 thousand kilometers.
