JERNAS is entitled to export air defense system Rapier FSC (Field Standard C), developed by MBDA (previously Matra BAe Dynamics, UK). JERNAS was based on was in service with the British Army and the Air Force and rocket launcher Rapier Mk 2, the radar target tracking and surveillance radar Blindfire Dagger. JERNAS provides protection from unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise missiles and aircraft, and helicopters. Rapier can hit supersonic, smallish soaring, highly maneuverable aircraft and can be towed by midsize cars and armored personnel carriers. The system is also aviatransportiruemoy airplanes or helicopters.
Development of the system began in 1992 and 57 Rapier FSC systems have been made by order of the Ministry of Defence of England. Rapier FSC is the first time entered into service in 1996. System has been in operation for 2-powered defense Royal Artillery, 3 air defense battalion of the Royal Air Force and the respective academic departments.
In July 2004, the Ministry of Defence of England announced plans to reduce air defense missile launchers Rapier from 48 to 24, including the disbanding divisions of ground air defense infrastructure of the Royal Air Force. Four divisions of the Royal Air Force had been disbanded during the period from March 2006 to March 2008.
Brand new system of command and control air defense, ADC4I, developed by order of the Ministry of Defence of England in the first step of programs from the ground air defense infrastructure. The system will allow to connect to the network Rapier FSC and anti-aircraft missile system Starstreak. The second step will involve the modernization of missile systems. In December 2003, MBDA and EADS Defence & Communications won the contract for the project.
In service with 10 countries are different versions of the air defense system Rapier. Oman, Singapore, Switzerland and Turkey have upgraded their systems and ordered a missile Mk 2. BAE Systems will upgrade 20 systems for Australia.
In April 2002, Malaysia signed a contract with MBDA procurement system Jernas, including missile launchers, radar systems, missiles, and after-sales training and support. Malaysia is the first export customer Jernas. Alenia Marconi Systems will supply radar target tracking and surveillance radar Blindfire Dagger. First deliveries were made in 2006.
Start-up unit consists of eight ready to launch missiles. Missiles mounted on rails launcher, placed on the walls of the spinning tower. Full reload is performed by hand for 2-minutes and does not require any lifting attachments. Rapier Mk 2 missile has a combined high-explosive warhead development of BAE Systems Land Systems (RO Defence) and armed with a multi-mode laser remote detonator. The missile is armed with advanced two-stage solid-propellant engine from Roxel. Guidance is automatic.
The fire control system and review
Radar target lock and review is a multi-beam 3D radar with the highest resolution available from BAE Systems Insyte (before Alenia Marconi Systems). Frequency-modulated 3D Doppler radar operates in J-band with a scanning speed of 60 or 30 / min. The highest detection range of 15 km. It is also possible to increment it up to 32 km. Maximum height of the detection of 5 km. The system is capable of detecting more than 75 goals in a second. Signal processing system includes a noise reduction methods are also resistant to electronic countermeasures. The protection system turns off automatically when it detects the transfer of anti radialakatsionnyh missiles.
Radar target tracking with a frequency-modulated signal Blindfire, supplied by BAE Systems Insyte acts F-range. It provides a fully automatic all-weather support in the range of 15 km. Initial signal is quite massive to overcome most of the interference. Also, the radar also uses advanced frequency control techniques to get around the interference and other means of electronic countermeasures. A dedicated team provides the ability to dual-channel launch the missiles.
Electro-optical tracking devices represent a passive infrared electro-optical sensors. They are set in the upper part of the tower in a spherical protective housing and controlled by the operator from the control instrument. Tracking device can be used in the scan mode to provide passive stealth detection and capture objectives in off the radar. Signed a contract with Raytheon Systems Limited for the supply of systems Rapier FSC English army.
When the detection and capture of target surveillance radar data are transmitted to the tracking radar and launcher, which is then automatically set in the direction of the target. The goal is captured by an optical tracking system. The missile is launched only after the proof of the aggressive surveillance radar accessories goals. Rocket directed to the target using passive infrared and active radar at speeds above Mach 2.5. The automatic reaction is less than 5 seconds, and the capture of the second objective is the least 3 seconds.
