Opinion poll in South Ossetia: 86% - for the Russian language, 88% - for reunification with Russia

In the period from 29 September to 2 October 2011, the Center for Sociological and advertising research SOCIUM (Moscow), together with SOTSSI ISPI RAN (Vladikavkaz, North Ossetia), conducted an overarching case study, the purpose of the study of public opinion on a burning social and political dilemmas Republic of South Ossetia (RSO) and the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. In the first part of the project presented the results of a sociological survey conducted in all regions of South Ossetia, including the city of Tskhinvali. The sample in the survey totality of respondents was 700, representing a model of the population of South Ossetia on aspects of gender, age and education. The content of a sample produced a complex totality, using the quota method as the main one.

On question "Is it clear to you that the November 13, 2011 in South Ossetia will be a referendum on the status of the Russian language in the republic?" received the following answers: "Yes" — 81.2% "No" — 18.5% "Do not know" — 0.3%.

On question "Are you planning to take part in the voting at the national referendum on the status of the Russian language in the Republic of South Ossetia?" received the following answers: "Yes" — 83.0% "No" — 10.2% "Do not know" — 6.8%.

On question "Do you agree that municipal languages in the republic of South Ossetia were Ossetian and Russian?"Received the following answers:" Yes "- 86.1%" No "- 2.5%" Difficult reply"- 11.4% of the total number of respondents planning to take part in the referendum on the status of the Russian language in the Republic of South Ossetia.

On question "How do you feel about the ability of the reunification of South Ossetia and North Ossetia and the forthcoming accession of South Ossetia in the Russian Federation?" answers were then read "positive" — 87.9%, "more positive than negative" — 5.6% "not positive and not negative" — 3.1% "negative" — 2.1% " more negative than positive "- 0.3%" do not know reply"- 0.8%.

By building Ossetian Popular Front "Russian-Ossetian", which appointed its motto "Our homeland and united Ossetia", the respondents reacted further as follows: "positive" — 83.3%, "more positive than negative" — 4.6% "not positive and not negative" — 6.9% "negative" — 1.7%, "more negative than positive" — 0.2% "do not know reply"- 3.3%.
