June 30, 2011, 12:36 CA-NEWS (UZ) — U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) released satellite images of the massive dust storm that passed through the northern part of Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan over the weekend. NASA satellite has photographed a natural phenomenon in the color image on June 25 of this year. White plume of dust is thick enough to completely hide the land surface below.
Sandy deserts are widespread in the region, covering most of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and southern part of the territory along the northern border of Afghanistan. Snow caps some mountains to the east of the dusty trail in the pictures have little beige shade

In some cases, a sufficient amount of dust can accelerate the melting of snow, the report says.
