IMSS was created in 1971. It is situated ten kilometers to the Center of the Permian go.poda a beautiful pine forest on the right bank of the Kama River.

Topics covered include:
— Mathematical and physical modeling of deformation and fracture of the anomalous behavior of solids, taking into account the temperature-time effects, chemical and phase transformations in materials, appearance and development of defects
— Methods of numerical experiments in mechanics of the body and in fluid mechanics
— The problems of hydrodynamic stability and turbulence: the forced flow, convection, physicochemical hydrodynamics of polymers, suspensions, and magnetic fluids.

Among the developments of the Institute — pumps for liquid metals whose melting temperature up to 850C, with capacity up to 4 tons hour, lifting height up to 12 meters. The pumps have no moving parts in their work successfully use the principle of magnetic hydrodynamics.

Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) — the science of the motion of electrically conducting fluids in the presence of a magnetic field, a branch of physics, which has developed "at the crossroads" of hydrodynamics and classical electrodynamics.

MHD pump circulates metal using specially created in the liquid metal electromagnetic forces, however has no moving parts, does not cause mixing of the entire volume of the crucible and can pump more pure metal.

Designed for pumping low-melting liquid metals (such as magnesium and its alloys, sodium, potassium, etc.). The pump creates a pressure of 0.5 atmosphere and develops a maximum flow rate of up to 7 tons of liquid magnesium per hour. The pump is powered by three-phase power frequency. Channel pump when working with liquid magnesium is destroyed and needs periodic replacement, it is cheap to manufacture, and its replacement is quick and easy one worker.

MHD — the pump push-pull

Application MHD pump for supplying metal belt casting magnesium ingots magnesium allows pumping through pipes, thereby reducing their oxidation and take out more pure metal melt surface. MHD pump has no moving parts, so the metal is not contaminated bottom sediments. MHD pump allows you to conveniently manage the flood of ingots, as to isolate the metal from the outer atmosphere and prevent it from entering the hazardous gases, dramatically reducing the risk of occupational diseases.

This easy to maintain pump can be used for operational purposes, the pump has to be transferred from the crucible into the crucible. Unlike other pump designs, the pump push-pull does not require preheating in the salt melt. The intake pipe of the pump can be immediately lowered into the liquid magnesium.
At present, the pump is used to Solikamsk Magnesium Plant for casting magnesium foundry conveyor.

Elektrovihrevoy MHD submersible pump used for pumping liquid-melting metals (magnesium and its alloys, sodium, potassium, etc.). The pump creates a pressure to 2 bar, and develops a maximum flow rate of up to 7 tons of liquid magnesium per hour.
MHD pump has electrical coils that create a magnetic field and electric current is supplied to the channel by metalloprovodu.
During pump operation can be completely immersed in the liquid metal melt and therefore do not require special additional steps to run. When working with liquid magnesium feed pump, made of stainless steel, and destroyed over time require replacement. The pumps were tested at JSC "AVISMA" and Solikamsk Magnesium Plant.

In MHD agitator vertical and horizontal currents in the volume excited respectively running and rotating magnetic fields, with the possibility of independent regulation.
In contrast to conventional continuous casting with MHD-mixing:
— Improves the crystal structure;
— Distributes impurities and alloying elements;
— Improves the surface quality of the ingot.

MHD agitator outperforms existing alternatives:
— Performs the mixing of metal in the horizontal and vertical planes with the possibility of independent regulation of the intensity of these movements, allowing you to control the shape of the solidification front and the size of the crystal structure;
— Stirrer splash-proof and withstands the housing of liquid aluminum in an emergency.

MHD mixers Institute were made for the pilot production of All-Aluminum-Magnesium Institute (YOU, St. Petersburg, Russia), where they are working successfully since 1994, and for Kamensk-Ural Steel (KUMZ, Russia) for the Division of MHD Research Center (Rossendorf, Germany) for the firm Sidaut (Valyadolit, Spain).

The equipment has patents of the Russian Federation, successfully tested designs.
