National Park Onega Pomerania established in Arkhangelsk

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, his decree established the National Park "Onega Pomorie," the press service of the government.

National Park with total area of 201 thousand hectares is created on the Onega peninsula on forest land and water fund lands (in the waters of Bay of the White Sea UNSC).

Park was established to preserve the Arkhangelsk region of natural complexes and objects of great environmental and scientific importance, including as habitat for rare and endangered species of flora and fauna listed in the Red Book of Russia. It is also about the protection of unique array of old-growth forests of the northern taiga, the preservation of culture and way of life of the population Pomeranian White Sea.

"National Park and transferred to the control of Ministry of Russia. His creation and operation will be carried out within the budget of the federal budget allocated to the Ministry of Environment to ensure that activities of the subordinate agencies", — the press-service.
