South Korea armed with ballistic missiles

In response to North Korea's attempt to launch a satellite on April 13, using a ballistic missile, South Korea released a video clip showing the start of unknown South Korean ship cruise and ballistic missiles. Cruise missile — apparently it Hyunmoo 3, but the ballistic rocket and remains unidentified. This video clip was to show North Korea that the South has a tool that can achieve at least some point in the north. The video was also had to appease the South Korean voters who are fed up with the North Korean belligerence.

South Korea is not normally open information about their own rockets. Three years back, South Korean media said that in 2008, the establishment was secretly launched brand new cruise missile with a range of 1,000 km. The rocket was called Hyunmoo 3. Since then, she has been replaced by a rocket Hyunmoo 3C, which owns a range of 1,500 km and at the present time, these missiles are deployed on the border of North Korea and focus on the location of ballistic missiles, nuclear weapons and other strategic sites in the north.

The last 30 years, the United States tried to dissuade South Korea plans to the creation of ballistic and cruise missiles distant radius acts. It was made in order to try to stop the arms race with North Korea, but the North pretended not to notice. Meanwhile, the United States assured South Korea that will intervene in the conflict, if South Korea attacked from the north.

Despite the U.S. refusal to assist South Korea, the latter developed in the 1980's ballistic missile Hyunmoo Hyunmoo 1 and 2 with a range of 180 and 300 km, respectively. Both missiles are about 13 feet long and weigh 4-5 tons. South Korea comes in the mode to control the spread of missile technology (MTCR) and the fact undertakes not to develop ballistic missiles with a range of actions for more than 300 km. When designing missiles Hyunmoo 1 and 2 was applied making American antiaircraft missiles Nike-Hercules, South Korea used for many years.

Development of the production of cruise missiles and ballistic easier, apparently, Hyunmoo 3 made completely of the South Korean component. Like the Tomahawk, Hyunmoo 3, apparently, is about 6 feet long, weighs 1.5 tons, armed with a 500kg warhead and runs out of hiding (on the hills in front of North Korea) and possibly protected containers. North Korea has about 600 ballistic missiles aimed at South Korea.

Large radius of the act Hyunmoo 3C allows her to hit any target in all areas of North Korea, including transportation routes and supply base deep inside North Korea. Possessing a range of 1,500 km, rocket is also capable of striking targets on the ground in China and Russia.

In the past year, South Korea announced that it has relocated some of its own tactical missiles (Army Tactical Missile Systems, ATACMS) in the area of the North Korean border. ATACMS consists of a 610 mm rocket is launched from the size of the container allows its placement on 227-mm MLRS launcher. The South Korean version of the ATACMS has a range of 165 km. Because of this it is able to achieve many goals in North Korea, but not the capital (Pyongyang is 220 kilometers north of the demilitarized zone). There is a version of ATACMS with a range of 300 km, but South Korea does not have these missiles. ATACMS is launched from the American MLRS launcher. On arms of South Korea is only 220 missiles ATACMS. They are all equipped with cluster munition warheads, with half of them are unmanaged and possess a range of up to 128-km. The other half of the smallest warheads armed with GPS guidance and a range of 165 km. Of course, this is the version has been relocated closer to the border with North Korea to force nervous. South Korea initially bought ATACMS in 1998, the year in order to own a weapon able to achieve positions of North Korean artillery and huge accumulation tanks.

Despite the protests of the South American, South Korea began to develop (no mass production) ballistic missiles in the 1970s. South Korea certainly has the technical expertise and manufacturing facilities for the production of more modern ballistic missiles with a range of 300 km act, as it was demonstrated in nedavneshnem video clip. South Korea signed an international agreement, pledging not to create ballistic missiles with a range greater than 300 kilometers, but public opinion in the south of calls to break that contract in order to make the whole area of North Korea vulnerable to ballistic missiles in South Korea.
