Three killed in Tajikistan following mudflows

Photo: profi-forex.orgDUSHANBE, May 6 — Reuters, Lydia Isamova.Three people died in mudslides, derailed in different regions of Tajikistan in the night from Thursday to Friday, told the press center of the Emergency Committee (CSF) of the Republic Dustmurod Zabirov.

"The heavy rains that began on Thursday morning, called mud flows in Farkhor, Panj, Penjikent, Shahrinav Vahdatskoym and regions", — he said.

According Zabirova, two brothers, 18 and 16 were killed in mudslides, descended into Farkhor region (220 kilometers south-east of Dushanbe). In Penjikent district (about 200 kilometers north of the capital), killed 15-year-old girl.

Spokesperson of the CSF said that in place of gathering floods destroyed roads infrastructure, damaged household, washed away crops.

"Now, the work by representatives of the operational headquarters, a special commission counts the damage element" — added Zabirov.

A year ago, torrential rains in Tajikistan, caused flooding and mudslides gathering, which killed 60 people.

Natural disasters that occurred in 2010, according to official data, damaged the Tajik economy more than $ 600 million.
