Russia’s armed forces will receive the first anti-aircraft missile systems S-500 in 2013. On this, as reported by "Interfax", said the Russian Air Force Commander, Major-General Viktor Bondar. Earlier it was expected that the development of the system will be completed in 2015, and possibly delayed for two years, then it was planned to begin shipping systems to the troops.

Details of the new complex is not yet known. Presumably, the C-500 is compact and maneuverable existing S-400 "Triumph" and surpass them in their ability to affect different aerodynamic and ballistic targets. C-500 will get a more powerful radar capable of detecting targets at ranges of up to 800-900 kilometers. As part of the anti-S-500 is expected to be unified with a missile defense system in Moscow A-135 "Cupid."

In late February 2011, Vladimir Popovkin, who was then the post of first deputy defense minister, said that "initially launch of the new complex will be based on a set of S-400." Subsequently, the C-500 will receive their own new missile. It was reported earlier that the mass production of new systems will begin in the year 2014-2015.

This year, the Air Defense Concern "Almaz-Antey" in Nizhny Novgorod will start construction of a plant for the production of the C-500. This venture will be set up in the grounds of the Nizhny Novgorod Machine Factory, and will work in 2015. In addition, in the Kirov region plans to build another plant SAMs and radars, including those for the C-500.

Financing for the development and procurement of the S-500 provides the state program of armaments Russia 2011-2020, which amounts to about 23 trillion rubles. The exact amount of purchase S-500 is not yet known. In the future, new complexes along with the C-400 would have to be the basis of the Russian missile defense system.
