Angstrom has acquired IBM’s technology for the production of 90-nanometer chips

IBM has entered into an agreement with Zelenogradskaya enterprises NGO "Angstrom" and "Angstrom-T" on the licensing of technology of production of integrated circuits with 90 nanometer.

Using this technology, "Angstrom" plans to start production of chips and sensors for advancement in the industrial and consumer segments, said the sides.

In addition to the license for the use of technology "Angstrom" will receive from IBM design rules required for contract manufacturing organization, and will be able to offer the services of Smart Foundry Russian and foreign customers.

Funding for the purchase and installation of technology on a newly built factory in Zelenograd microelectronic "Angstrom-T" provides Vnesheconombank (VEB). The amount of the transaction not disclosed.

IBM itself already has a 32-nm technology. In particular, it is based processors were released Power7 +, which are equipped with the latest generation of servers — Power 770 and 780.

The equipment, which will produce 90-nanometer chips, formerly "Angstrom" purchased at AMD. In the current configuration, it is intended for the production of chips with the topology of 110-130 nm. To organize the production of 90-nm products, according to a "Angstrom" Alexei Dianova, need to purchase several pieces of equipment.

The equipment is now "Angstrom" is stored in a warehouse in the Netherlands. It will be imported to Russia after being on "Angstrem-T" finish building the necessary infrastructure and clean rooms. An estimated Dianova, it will happen by the end of 2013, and the launch of production can take place in the first half of 2014, subject to the schedule of funding from the VEB.

Another Zelenograd plant — "Micron", owned by AFK "System" — launched the production of 90-nm chips in 2012, the first chip issued by this technology, were supplied in computing and telecommunication systems for the aerospace industry, said the company.
