Cyclists pushed motorists on veloparade in Moscow (+ photos)

Veloparad Let’s Bike It! held in Moscow on May 20. According to the organizers, it was attended by more than five thousand people. The route ran along the embankment of the Moscow River along the Kremlin and Red Square to Vasilevsky descent and back. For the free movement of cyclists traffic police blocked the advance of the street, which was held on a bike ride.

As told RIA Novosti Vladimir Kum organizer marathon, run organized within the framework, the development of cycling in the capital. Its main purpose — to pay attention to the city government on the need to develop veloinfrastruktury in the capital, in particular — to draw attention to the problem of the lack of bicycle lanes.

"I think that officials will begin to look a little different to cycling. And when will bikeways, people will be able to ride in normal clothes to work and study," — said Kum.

Currently in Moscow, created bikeways on Luzhnetskaya waterfront on Sparrow Hills, in the parks, "Troparevo", "Kuz’minki" and "Kuskovo." Their total length is several tens of kilometers. By 2016, the city government plans to equip 119 of bicycle paths in the city.

Cyclists begin to gather

Gathered. Participant could be anyone. No registration, and other bureaucracies.

On the area did not have enough room for everyone. Cyclists are located on the lawns in anticipation of the launch.

Wishing distributed here are the yellow T-shirts

In veloparade attended various cyclists, from professionals to children

Not without veloekzotiki

Small folding bike. With so you can ride in the subway.

Another wonderful bike

Preparation for launch

Start!

Surprised by the citizens and looking at cyclists. Veloparad not widely advertised, and for many of his conduct as a surprise.

In general, the participants learned about the conduct of the parade from the Internet. The organizers planned to collect about 5,000 cyclists. It is difficult to tell the exact number of participants, but the sensations were many more.

The first group of cyclists are on their way back

The Kremlin Embankment. Instead of a constant traffic jam roadway filled with bikers.

Cyclists pass pedestrians

Skaters on veloparad specifically invited, but did not expel

Cyclists on the background of St. Basil’s Cathedral. A little rest and a way back.

Closes the parade group on unicycles

On this bike ride harder than usual (you can not stop and you constantly, without rest, to pedal). But people manage to pass on such a bike on 20-30-40 kilometers (more than the wheel, the farther you can go.)

One can not be said about the volunteers. More than a hundred enthusiasts, completely free of charge, helped lead the parade. They organized movement, assisted by the participants and followed the order. However, cyclists — decent people and "a disgrace not hooligans."

At the parade there was an atmosphere of joy, fun and unbridled enthusiasm. It was very cool! Still, the central bank of the Moskva was completely given to cyclists (usually bikers or forced to risk their lives to dodge cars on the road, or to maneuver between pedestrians on sidewalks)! I hope that veloparad become an annual event. And finally recognize cyclists (not just in words but also in deeds) for the full road users.

So many have heard and read that Moscow is not suitable for cycling (bad climate, great distances, etc.). Nonsense! Muscovites can, and will want to ride bikes! Many participants rode a bike in the 10-20 kilometers (public transport with conventional bikes are not allowed, only with fold) to take part in veloparade!

Let’s bike it!
Traffic jams will not be!
