RT introduces new technology of heavy oil residue

Installation of processing heavy residues on the latest technology VCC will appear at the refinery "TAIF-NK" in 2015. The contract for the basic engineering plants with a capacity of more than 3 million tons per year between OJSC "TAIF-NK" and U.S. engineering company KBR was signed today in Kazan. In the presence of the President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov document was signed by the first president, a member of the Board of Directors of KBR Tim Challand and CEO of OJSC "TAIF-NK" Amil Kalimullin.

The new plant will operate on licensed technology «Veba combi cracker», is 2-2.5 times larger for profit generation all the known technology of processing heavy residues. Power plant for raw materials by 2.7 million tonnes a year by bitumen and 0.7 million tonnes of vacuum gas oil per year. Thus, the new plant will process in light oil all the heavy residues of petroleum oils to "TAIF-NK". Currently out of fuel oil to "TAIF-NK" is about 28-29% — more than 2 million tons per year. Upon commissioning of the new plant, scheduled for 2015, the refinery will process 7.3 million tons of Tatarstan oil and produce 7.1 million tons of high-quality oil. Overall profitability of the refinery will increase by 1.7-2 times.
The cost of the project, the preliminary estimate of 1.5 billion. According to the General Director of OJSC "TAIF" Albert Shigabutdinov, 15% of the project cost will amount to own the company, 85% — borrowed from banks. Payback period — 3 years after the commissioning of the plant.

As announced today at the launch of the project, "TAIF-NK" became only the third company that has acquired a license for the technology VCC — during the previous half year contracts for the development and construction of facilities VCC now KBR signed two major Chinese oil companies. At the same time, according to the first president, a member of the Board of Directors of KBR Tim Challanda, now showing interest in the development of more than 30 customers worldwide. In particular, it is an Indian company Reliance, which owns the world's largest refinery in Jamnagar.

The technology was developed in the middle of the last century. During the Second World War it was used in Germany to produce oil from coal, but in time of peace has become unprofitable because oil was cheap. Only in recent years the company KBR and BP have perfected this technology for heavy residues, bitumen and heavy oil.

According to Tim Challanda, Tatarstan has a great potential to use technology VCC, since the republic are large reserves of heavy oil processing and which technology is used.

President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said that a project to process heavy residues completely fits into the idea of the need to increase the depth of oil refining, voiced by the government. "The current taxation encourages enterprises to increase the depth of oil refining. And the whole lot to Russia to work in this direction, "- said Minnikhanov.

Head of RT recalled that "Taif" engaged in search of suitable technologies for processing heavy residues within 5-6 years. "Today we have reached the stage of basic design, and I am sure that in 3-4 years will be able to implement the project", — said the President of Tatarstan.

He did not rule out the use of technology in the VCC and other refinery projects in Tatarstan — for processing heavy residues on "TANECO" oil and bitumen. The "TAIF-NK", according to Rustam Minnikhanov should be revealing as to Tatarstan, and the company KBR, demonstrating the advantages of the new technology

Tatarstan President congratulated the partners with the signing of the contract and expressed his confidence in the success of this project forward.

In the short term, a reconstruction of the central pillars gas fractionation plant.
