Ukraine sets the record for the export of sugar in the 2011/2012 marketing year

Ukrainian sugar exports in the current marketing year (September 2011 — August 2012) will be at least 150 thousand tons, a record for Ukraine, predicts the National Association of Sugar Producers' Ukrtsukor. "

"We think that sugar exports will be at least 150 thousand tons, whereas in the previous marketing year, it amounted to 6.2 thousand tons," — said a source in the association.

According to "Ukrtsukra", since September of last year to June of the current Ukraine supplied to foreign markets 118.3 thousand tons of sugar. In particular, in June it was exported 23.5 thousand tons.

The main buyers of Ukrainian sugar are Kazakhstan (83 tons), Georgia (8.9 million tons), Kyrgyzstan (5.9 million tons), Lebanon (4.45 tonnes), Uzbekistan (3,987 tonnes) Turkmenistan (3.4 tons), Syria (2.4 million tons).

According to the association, along with the growth of exports of Ukraine has significantly reduced imports sugar. Thus, over the 10 months of the MG country imported 14.56 million tons of sugar, while for the whole 2010/2011 marketing year — almost 290 thousand tons.

Earlier, the "Ukrtsukor" assessed the export potential of Ukraine in the current marketing year in the amount of 470 thousand tons of beet sugar.

As reported, the beet harvest in 2011 Ukraine produced 2.33 million tonnes of sugar against 1.54 million tons a year earlier.

Capacity of Ukrainian sugar market is estimated by experts at 1.8-1.9 million tons per year.
