Installation in Dubna will work on a global level

Joint Institute for Nuclear Research began summer session policy advisory committees with the participation of leading scientists from research centers in the world. Opened its 34th session of the PAC, chaired by Professor Walter Greiner (Germany) running on 16-17 June 2011.

This, I believe, a very good result, — Says Valery Shvetsov. — Experiments started on the program of nuclear data — is receiving sections for different structural parameters, fuels that are used in the nuclear power industry. Then we restore the traditional cooperation with Bulgaria and establish cooperation with South Korea. An example of applied physics can serve our cooperation with Belarus, with the department dealing with new materials, the university in Minsk. They make new boron ceramics, thin, lightweight, durable, which potentially can be used as protective materials in neutron nuclear physics. We have a joint project in which we are taking measurements of the percentage of boron in these ceramics — our methods for IRENE. This work was supported by a grant from the authorized representative of the Government of Belarus to JINR, a joint project under the RFBR.

It is known that the maximum of its parameters IRENE has not yet reached, in its report on the program committee a year ago VN Sweden notes that the hope for the development of the installation are connected, first of all, with the new klystron (Special vacuum devices to convert DC to AC flow of electrons), which is commissioned by the Dubna physicists was taken to a famous Japanese company Toshiba.

Klystron had to put in the JINR at the end of March, — Says Valery Shvetsov. — But when he was preparing for departure, there was an earthquake in Japan and the laboratory where the klystron was standing almost ready for packing and shipping, has suffered. We had quite a nervous time in about a month, because for security reasons, the Japanese could not even go into the shells (they were damaged) and we do not know what is out there with our klystron. But it produced more than six months — eight months. But eventually have access to it, the device has been tested, is tested. It turned out that everything is in order: it is "alive" and brought to us.

Now the ball is on our side: we will have to mount this device, run, test, test the system with the new accelerator klystron. From this first phase will depend on the future prospects.

You can designate any time frame?

This year we are working with a new installation klystron do parallel experiments, demonstrating what can our setting and our scientific team.
