Successfully completed an experiment to study the navigation situation in the high northern latitudes during the transition for the Northern Sea Route

In September 2011, completed an experiment to study the navigation conditions in the high northern latitudes during the transition through the Northern Sea Route (NSR). Going patrol vessel FS-824 was carried out by the Northern Sea route Murmansk — Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky — Nevel'sk.

The initiative belonged to the meeting Information-Analytical Center for timing and navigation support (IAC) FSUE TsNIIMash. Assistance in the Department has had a Coast Guard Border Service of Russia, whose ship was made a transition.

The main objectives of the experiment were:
assessment of the real situation navigation along the Northern Sea Route, as well as along the coast of Russian Far East;
testing of samples of domestic and foreign consumer navigation equipment, including a differential mode of navigation;
development of the technology of constructing the control path on the basis of a posteriori processing of data from different dual-frequency GLONASS / GPS receivers;
development of the technology of data exchange between the mobile monitoring point (in the ship) and the IAC.

A similar experiment was carried out in 2006, but over time the conditions have changed significantly: replenished orbital constellation of satellites GLONASS navigation equipment expanded park, there is a constant increase its accuracy characteristics, increased the number of control and correction stations for transmitting differential corrections along the NSR.

Preparation for the experiment this year took several months. During this time the technique has been drawn up of the experiment, conducted negotiations with the developers of navigation equipment, advanced testing equipment.

Moving on SMEs was launched on August 28 of the Kola Bay (the port of Murmansk), and lasted until September 15. The end point was the island of Sakhalin (port g.Nevelsk).

The experiment involved more than ten new models of navigation equipment of domestic and foreign manufacturers — CB "NAVIS" RIRV, SRI KP Izhevsk Radio Plant, "Radio Complex», JavadGNSS, LeicaGeosystems (courtesy of Navgeokom). The total weight of the equipment, including cables, made up of more than 150 kilograms.

The measurements were performed continuously for the duration of the transition. Data on the position of the vessel is automatically transmitted via satellite connection to the server IAC, and then displayed on the Center's website, allowing all interested persons and organizations to monitor the progress of the experiment.

According to head of the sector to assess the quality of navigation equipment TsNIIMASH Alexei Bermisheva (head of the experiment) for the days of the way in the difficult conditions of the North, had to face serious vagaries of weather. On the second day of transition began four-point storm, which became a kind of test of the test equipment. The check was successfully passed.

The deputy head of IAC Nasim Kaznovsky, the experiment was successfully carried out, all the goals and targets are met. During the transition, the NSR was a large volume of information has been verified performance of receivers and their mathematical software in the northern latitudes and features of placing the equipment on the ship. After completion of the processing of accumulated navigation measurements will be obtained, as expected, interesting practical results.
