Training sailing ship Pallada is sent on an expedition

Training sailing vessel "Pallada" Far Eastern State Technical Fisheries University today sent from Vladivostok to Pacific expedition. The route runs along the coast of North America — land, discovery and development of Russian sailors and explorers in the middle of the XVII century. Sailboat visit the ports of the United States, Canada, and Japan, where the students will visit historic sites and cultural monuments, as well as take part in the celebrations.

"The purpose of the expedition — to provide students of practical skills in the face of a large ocean swimming and drawing attention to the achievements of Russian space exploration, popularization of Russian sailors in the history of the development of Alaska and the Aleutian Islands," — said the press service of the university.

Sailboat "Pallada" will be open for visits and tours, thousands of visitors will become familiar with the subject the exposition, which will be placed on board the ship. Students will act as tour guides on the sailboat. Total expedition members will spend at sea for more than three months, and returned to Vladivostok in mid-October, after passing over the Pacific Ocean more than 13,000 miles.

"Pallada" — one of the most famous Russian sailing. The modern three-masted sail training ship was built in 1989 in Gdansk on request of the USSR Ministry of Fisheries and intended for practical training students of maritime training institutions, representative purposes and participation in international regattas and festivals. Over 20 years of sailboat made 109 flights visited 101 port 35 countries, training voyage on the ship went over 12,000 cadets and students.

Sailboat "Pallada" is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the most speedster sailing ship in the world. He was able to reach more than 18 knots per hour. The ship became famous for his victories in international regattas and circumnavigation committed in 2007-2008. Route circumnavigation took the places of discovery and hiking Russian sailors XIX and XX centuries.
