In the night from 10 to 11 August 2013 in a suburban area of the city of Ivanovo seminar was the second star. He became a logical continuation of the April city outreach campaign «sidewalk astronomy».
The seminar this time was called «Summer Triangle» in honor of the light all night the main stars of the summer sky: Vega, Deneb and Altair.
The event was attended by 25 people, most for the first time. People drove throughout the observation period. There are five telescopes: two Newtonian reflector, a refractor and Maksutov two systems. In addition, we used laptops and smart phones fitted with the specialized astronomical programs, allowing to focus on the starry sky.
Before it became quite dark and the participants started the main program of observations among the newcomers was conducted astronomical quiz, the winners of which got an interesting prize.
Many were photo essay. However, the night dew and light ground fog is not possible to obtain high-quality photos and makes it difficult for yourself observations: constantly had to wipe the lens will cloud up with telescopes.
But despite all the obstacles, the event was a success, the participants brought a lot of positive emotions and impressions.
What could see newcomers wishing to join the beauty of the starry sky?
This, of course, the sky itself. Dark and clean. Lack of exposure allowed the city in all its glory to enjoy the bright Milky Way, star clusters and placers constellations. All recognized the Big Dipper, the North Star unerringly found associated with the constellation of the Dolphin long-tailed mouse, looked at the horizon shimmering orange Arcturus and the Pleiades ascending pearls.
In addition, the program included monitoring flies in the evening over Ivan’s International Space Station. It was possible to see two passes. One was at 22.56-22.58, when the station as a very bright star moving from west to east, almost pogasnuv eastern horizon. Moreover, the rate of ISS moved perpendicular to another satellite. The picture was so beautiful that many have tried to fix her camera. There were not very successful attempts to see through a telescope station -uzh too fast it moves. But non-point form to see happen. The second passage occurred in the first half of the night. ISS has faded in the south-west. Prior to this, there was an unidentified 23.02 flashing satellite, which increases a few seconds of its brightness and fading caused a storm of emotions.
In those days was the maximum Perseid meteor shower from a radiant in the constellation Perseus. Meteora, bright enough and fast, leaving a greenish trace, observed every half minute. In addition they had seen meteors other streams, often flying towards peresidit. They probably belong to one of the family flows Aquariids (radiant in the constellation of Aquarius), and peaked in early August.
From planets in the evening, just after sunset, low on the horizon cloud could see Saturn. The telescope he looked orange (due to the cloud of haze) with wide rings. Cassini’s division could not see.
At night, all the attention was drawn to Uranus, located in the constellation of Pisces. This penultimate planet in the solar system at a hundred fold increase appeared as a bright light green circle.
Jupiter see through a telescope failed. He ascended above the horizon, when all the equipment has been removed. Much attention is attracted deep-sky objects. Located 23 million light-years from Earth, the galaxy M51 Whirlpool was pale, but could see even the spiral arms and the central bright part. Galaxy M81 (exploding) and M82 in the constellation Ursa Major observers pleased with its location: just the two can be seen in the telescope’s field of view. In addition, traditionally carried out observations of the galaxy Andromeda Nebula, a planetary nebula in the constellation Lyra Ring, globular cluster M13 in Hercules and a pair of open clusters hi-ash in Perseus …
The night sky was clear. The observation program was fully implemented. The event ended at half past two in the morning.
Finally, we note that in previous nights, many amateur astronomers Ivanovo Region conducted their own observations.
