Princess Tigerlily

HER FATHER IS IN QUEEN, AND HER MOTHER HAD A VERY INTENSE MOMENT WITH A CADBURY’S FLAKE. TOGETHER, THEY CREATED TIGERLILY TAYLOR – MODEL, PHOTOGRAPHER, PHILOSOPHER… BY SOPHIA MONEY-COUTTS

She’s got attitude, this one, you can tell. Not only from the hardcore stare and the minxy grin, but because she’s done things that her dad — Roger Taylor, the Queen drummer — wouldn’t approve of. What things? Tigerlily, 19, couldn’t possibly say, ‘but the trick is, never get caught,’ she explains. ‘As long as I work hard, he doesn’t mind.’

The model — ‘call me Tiger — has just finished taking her A-levels in English literature, philosophy and photography at Collingham in London, and is musing about what to do next. ‘I’ll probably go to art college, but I’m going to take a year off and figure things out. I want to do some photography internships, maybe in New York. And I want to travel across North America.’ This is likely to be riding pillion behind her boyfriend Alex Clayton Payne, a fellow student, who’s into motorbikes. ‘My dad can’t wait,’ she deadpans.

Fortunately, modelling is in her blood (her mum is Debbie Leng, who sent Flake sales rocketing in the Eighties after a TV ad in which she nibbled on a bar in silk undies), so although this is only her second shoot ever, Tiger’s hoping that future work will cover her airfare.

Before all that, she’ll be kicking back at a couple of festivals this summer — at ska- and reggae-focused Boomtown near Winchester and further afield at Dimensions in Croatia — or pottering about Ladbroke Grove, where she lives, and can often be found with a gin in the Elgin pub. ‘Or I go to the Box quite a lot. The acts are totally weird, but I love it,’ she says.

As we said, this one’s a minx.
