The German native has worked in Liebherr for 10 years and is now based in Singapore, overseeing the operations of the company in Asia Pacific. We had a quick chat with the wine lover when he was in town for the launch of Liebherr’s latest range of wine cabinets.

How has Liebherr evolved since if.s inception in 1949?

Liebherr started out producing mobile, easy-to-assemble and affordable tower cranes. In 1954, the company ventured into refrigeration with the launch of its first refrigerator. Later, Liebherr expanded its repertoire by offering components for aircrafts and trains. The one thing that has not changed throughout the decades is that it is still fully run by the Liebherr family members.

What makes Liebherr’s wine cabinets different?

Liebherr’s wine cabinets are instilled with sophisticated technologies and offer various important features like having a stable compressor to minimise vibration and providing constant temperature. To eliminate UV-rays that can affect wine quality, LED lamps are used and the glass doors are UV-proof.

Will we see more home appliances besides refrigerators and wine cabinets from Liebherr in the future?

No. We specialise in cooling and freezing and we’re going to continue to focus on that.

Most consumers simply store their wines in the refrigerator. Does it make a huge difference using a wine cabinet?

Of course there is a huge difference! UV rays, temperature and air quality etc play important roles in wine storage. For example, the odour of fresh fish in a fridge may seep into the wine bottle through its porous cork and affect its flavour. Wine cabinets, on the other hand, provide a clean environment for storing wine. Liebherr’s wine cabinets come with charcoal filters that ensure clean air is being circulated in the cabinet.

Any tips on choosing и wine cabinet?

First, decide where to place the wine cabinet. Then, choose whether you want a built-in or a free-standing one. There are also many colours and finishes to choose from. Finally, the capacity. Liebherr has wine cabinets that can fit from as little as 12 to as many as 300 bottles of wine.
