The Last TOMCAT Crusade

The USS George Washington (CVN 73) is currently making history as it sails in the 5th Fleet Area of Operations with two squadrons of F-14 Tomcats on board as part of the embarked Carrier Air Wing 7 (CVW-7). This is the last deployment of an Air Wing with two squadrons of the mighty F-14 assigned before all Tomcat squadrons are disbanded or converted to the different variants of the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.

Carl Vinson Homeports at Norfolk After The Round-the-world Cruise

ON JULY 31, the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) arrived at its new homeport, Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, at the end of a seven-month round-the-world cruise. The change of homeport, from Naval Station Bremerton, Washington, has been undertaken to enable the carrier to undergo a 36-month Refuelling Complex Overhaul (RCOM) in Virginia. Once the RCOH begins in November, the vessel will spend nearly 24 months in dry dock for planned repairs and the installation of new computer software, combat systems, propulsion controls and aviation support assets.

The crews of the Russian Air Force long-range aircraft conducted successful launches of cruise missiles

October 19 carriages long-range aircraft of the Air Force (IAF), Russia made a practical launches air-launched cruise missiles as part of routine training.

For practical arrangements involved the Tu-160 and Tu-95 with Engels airbase (Saratov region). The crews of strategic bombers, flying from the airfield Engels made a 15-hour flight over bezorientirnoy terrain and successfully implemented a 4 launches of cruise missiles at designated targets on the range Pemba (Komi Republic). Liner Costa Concordia ran aground on the non-existent rock
