Price-Cutting Saw

Got $100? That’s about all it takes to buy Deltas MS250 compound miter saw—a saw that recently sold for as high as $170. Miter saws are great for the shop and as fix-stuff-around-the-house tools, and compound miter saws provide even more versatility. On a compound saw you can angle and bevel the blade. This is especially useful when installing crown molding.

With its 10-in. blade, the MS250 will cut through 2×6 and 4×4 (nominal) lumber at 90 degrees and at only 28 Ib., this machine is a breeze to move around.

A 13-amp motor powers the MS250. This

Released at the end of last year, the Sony Cyber-Shot RX1 caused a stir, as it is the only digital compact camera with a full frame CMOS sensor. Now the RX1 has a companion, the Sony Cyber-Shot RX1R, which will sit alongside the standard version in the Sony range.

The new RX1R is essentially exactly the same camera as the RX1, with just one key change — it has no anti¬aliasing filter over its sensor. These filters are designed to slightly blur the image reaching

HOW TO…Add a vignette to an image.

Far from being a bygone technique, it is still the best way to focus the eye ‘Darkened corners’ is the simplest way of describing the vignette (though occasionally it comes in lightened form), but this belies the effectiveness of a technique that harps back to the days of dodging and burning in the dark room. While it’s often said to add drama to an image, its main application is to direct the eye away from the edges of the frame and allow it to sit nearer the centre so that anything surrounding the image is less distracting. It’s effective for
