Hawaiian Vampires

AIR TEST and Evaluation Squadron 9 (VX-9) ‘Vampires’ deployed eight Super Hornets to Kaneohe Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) on January 24. VX-9 conducts operational test and evaluation (OPEVAL) of specific sub-systems and weapons for Navy and Marine Corps combat aircraft. During the four-week deployment VX-9 flew mock air combat missions to conduct OPEVAL of H4 high-order language software suite and the AN/APG-79 Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar. Follow On Test and Evaluation (FOT&E) including the IDECM Block 3 and dual cockpit Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS) was also undertaken to prove the efficacy of new modes and

Islands in the Pacific Ocean

Pacific takes more than one-third of the entire surface of the globe, and rightly called before the Great. On its vast area there are large volcanic coral islands that rise from the depths of 4 000-6 000 meters.

The most significant of the archipelagoes of the Pacific Ocean are Hawaii. Main group there are eight islands, whose total area is nearly 17,000 square kilometers. All of them are mountainous and have resulted from volcanic activity is taking place in different geological periods.

In the eastern part of the archipelago, and now from time to

Debris after the March tsunami soon reached the island of Hawaii

Debris after the March tsunami soon reached the island of Hawaii Natural Disasters

The wreckage and debris washed into the sea tsunami following the March earthquake in Japan have increased by several million tons of the total amount of garbage in the Pacific Ocean. According to preliminary estimates the debris should reach the coast of California in 2013, but the first encounter with the U.S. territories will be much sooner. Scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration U.S. claim that partially submerged wreckage came close to the north-west coast of Hawaii in the winter 2011-2012.

Immediately after the earthquake

July 29, 2013. Tropical storm "Flossie", which became the sixth season of tropical storms in the northeast Pacific, was born on July 24 near the Mexican coast. Monday morning local time, it will be released on the Big Island of Hawaii, and then continue to move west over the rest of the archipelago.

Despite signs of weakening in the last hours, the storm will bring dangerous surf on the island, damaging winds, intense rains and flooding. Center of the storm will pass very close to the town of Hilo? the

The frequency of the north-eastern trade winds decreasing

The frequency of the north-eastern trade winds reduced Scientists prove

Scientists from the University of Hawaii at Manoa say reducing the frequency of occurrence of the trade winds that blow from the north-east in the last four decades. Thus, even 37 years ago, the number of days in the year when the airport Honolulu blowing trade winds, was 291. Now, however, the figure had fallen to 210 days.

Such a distinct change in the character of the northeast trade winds are essential for the normal climate of Hawaii. They affect the wave height, the formation of clouds, rainfall

Hawaii practically abandoned plastic

Hawaii practically abandoned plastic save the planet

Soon, customers in Hawaii will not appear on the choice between plastic and paper packaging. This will be the first state in the U.S., where the ban the use of plastic bags. Islanders will be obliged to go to the grocery stores and other Hawaiian cities and towns with reusable bags. Paper bags are also widely available, as they are biodegradable. However, for some

Astronomers are not seriously taken aback by a remote cluster of galaxies, which seem to line up, stretched out on the universe. Unusual picture captures a telescope "Subaru" in Hawaii. Astronomers suspect that the cosmic "order" may in some way be related to the way in which

Volcanoes

7.12.12.Potok lava from Kilauea volcano on the island of Hawaii for the first time in 11 months reached the ocean. Experts say that the new activity on the east side of the crater shows that the pressure inside the volcano increases.

Kilauea height of nearly 1250 meters. It is the youngest volcano land of Hawaii, as well as one of the most active in the world.

Local residents believe that it supports the volcano goddess Pele. In honor of her natural formation called lava. Frozen droplets — is "tears of Pele," and strips of lava frozen in

TMT telescope will look beyond the 13 billion light-years

16.04.2013

Tridtsatimetrovy Telescope (Thirty Meter Telescope, TMT) was under development for more than 10 years. For a long time, local residents by hook or by crook defended their land. It is now known that the project was approved by the Hawaii Board of Land and Natural Resources.

The astronomical observatory with a 30-meter mirror segment will be located on the top of the mountain Mauna Kea, Hawaii. Mirror telescope consists of 492 segments, and its sensitivity to 9 times higher than the largest existing at the time of ground-based telescopes. Thus, images are made TMT at
