Fashion forward Fronting up to the ostentatious excesses of retail in Dubai, Studio Toogood’s design for fashion store, Mahani, delivers visual reprieve in the form of a raw, robust and highly adaptable interior shell.

Announced by pared-back signage, exposed filament lights and a narrow entrance, the large, cool store interior is a visual respite from its over lit neighbours.

In Dubai, retail is recreation. As the city’s temperatures rise, hundreds of air-conditioned malls lure and entertain with typically kitsch, colossal, opulent and ostentatious shopping experiences. Yet in the face of ubiquitous retail bling, a brave newcomer is testing the water.

Retail sales in Ukraine in I quarter. grew by 13.4%

Retail sales in Ukraine in January-March of 2013 at constant prices grew by 13.4% compared to January-March 2012, the State Statistics Service said Tuesday.

According to her, in nominal terms, retail sales for the two months of this year amounted to 184.91 billion USD.

The Statistical Office said that in March retail sales of retail trade and restaurant business increased by 9.4% compared to March 2012 and by 13.9% — compared to February 2013, to UAH 34.252 billion.

Turnover of retail trade in the country for the past year at constant prices increased by 15.9% compared to the year 2011, reports the State Statistics Service.

According to the Statistical Office, in nominal terms, retail turnover of goods in 2012 amounted to 804.3 billion USD.

State Statistics Committee said that in the first 11 months of 2012, Ukrainians began to buy in retail at 15.7%, in nominal terms amounted to 722.75 billion USD.
