SPORT ACTION

WHETHER IT’STHE THRILLS AND SPILLS OF MOTORSPORT, YOUR KIDS RACING AROUND THE PARK ON THEIR BIKE OR THE DOG JUMPING FOR STICKS, ACTION PHOTOGRAPHY IS BOTH CHALLENGING AND EXCITING. IT’S ALSO ONE OF THE TRICKIEST PHOTOGRAPHIC DISCIPLINES THAT WILL TEST YOU AND YOUR EQUIPMENT TO THE LIMIT, BUT IF YOU STICK WITH IT AND MASTER THE BASIC SKILLS REQUIRED GREAT IMAGES WILL RESULT. TIMING IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS. OFTEN OPPORTUNITIES ONLY LAST FOR A FRACTION OF A SECOND BEFORE THE MOMENT IS LOST, BUT IN THAT TIME YOU HAVE TO MAKE NUMEROUS DECISIONS- ABOUT FOCUSING, EXPOSURE AND COMPOSITION, AS

DISCOVER PEACE IN PARADISE AT ESSQUE ZALU ON THE SPICE ISLAND OF ZANZIBAR

‘ZANZIBAR…’ THE WORD ALONE CONJURES ROMANCE. BOASTING SOME OF THE BEST BEACHES in the Indian Ocean, a warm welcome wherever you go and the surreal beauty of a tropical desert island, Zanzibar really does have it all. To top it off, you’re forced to stay clear of big hotel chains because there simply aren’t any. That doesn’t mean you have to opt for a beach shack though — far from it. Essque Zalu is the epitome of chic contemporary living with an injection of exotic flair. Boasting

We unveil tips and tricks for speeding up common photo editing tasks over multiple platforms.

What is an Action?

An Action is an automated series of edits applied to an image. When you add photo effects in Elements, you are essentially running an Action. There is a dedicated panel found in Window>Actions.

Use built-in options.

This is the Actions panel, where you will find some built-in Actions. These are categorised by what they do: some have practical applications and some have more fun effects. Click on the folders to see them.

Sonys Cutting-Edge Lens Now Used on a Phone

When SonyAlphaRumours.com first put up images of the DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100 lens, it was ridiculed. But it did not take long for the rumour to gain momentum and turn into a probability.

The two lenses meant to be magnetically attached to your smartphone or tablet features a built-in sensor, a Bionz processor, a Wifi/NFC wireless connection and an SD card slot. However, since they do not possess any camera controls, they will have to be managed using WiFi on the smartphone or tablet device.

Of the two lenses, the DSC-QX 10 will have a 1-inch 20.2MP sensor, similar to the

SO YOURE HIRING?

Last time we spoke to MATTHEW SEED he was busy hiring assistants for his studio, so we asked him to share some dos and don’ts. and tell us how to recognise the perfect assistant among your applicants.

I get a lot of emails from people wanting to assist me, but despite the regular flow of applications, very few of the people I take on actually work out. The main problem seems to be that everybody thinks of themselves as a photographer. They come to me with ready-made portfolios and some even have a website saying they are a photographer, and

Smoothing Curves.

Trading lumps and bumps for fair lines.

Incorporating curves into a piece of furniture can really delight the eye. The interplay between curved and straight lines can help ease transitions between sections and emphasize the overall form of a piece. Curves can also make elements appear visually lighter, more graceful, and even playful at times. Whether in the form of contoured edges, profiled moldings, or other shapely adornments, curves have a lot to offer your work.

However, they come at a cost. Curves take more time to cut than straight lines, and smoothing them demands a certain finesse.

In fact,

SMALL STEPS, BIG LEAPS

It’s a great paradox that the skills most experienced motorcyclists want to master are the same skills they hope they will never have to use out there on the road. What will I do when my front tire washes out at full lean? How will I react if I lock the front brake? What if the rear tire spins up and steps out?

It’s difficult to learn how you will react beyond your limits without exceeding those limits first. Watching other riders, or even following other riders, rarely answers these questions. Watching Marc Marquez drag his elbow is one thing;
