The Cold War was a crazy time: a global confrontation involved cunning penguins and the mighty polar bears, walruses and giant flocks of countless armada of whales, seals, albatrosses and killer …
Fetched, you say?
Well, the Cold War was a period of acute geopolitical tensions between the two superpowers, which is expressed mainly through political maneuvers and the creation of indirect threats. Boring, is not it? Let's take a better look at the most effective ways of killing a penguin with his bare hands. First we need to grab a penguin hands above and below the beak, and then vigorous twisting motion …
Or maybe listen to the story of the five craziest stories of the Cold War on shadow governments, research centers in the ice, and nuclear weapons?
1. Underground nuclear city in ice
Sometimes the real story is able to surpass science fiction. How's that for a fact — the United States of America was a small underground city in the North Pole, which was called Camp Century, very reminiscent of the rebel base on the planet Hoth from "Star Wars."
It all started in 1959 with the construction of a research station a few hundred meters under one of the icebergs in Greenland. From the side it looked like a sinister-looking snow-covered pyramid. But, going in depth, the complex has reached enormous proportions.
Served as a source of energy underground nuclear reactor, and the number of employees reached two hundred. It was a real town with gyms, chapels, libraries, shopping for hobby and even a movie theater. Although why watch a movie, and if so are you, as a sci-fi movie?
However, as is always the case with cool stuff, warriors soon received a title property to use it for their own purposes. On this occasion, with the money the military was even filmed a very convincing and utterly uncomplicated propaganda documentary.
Let us once again go over the facts: the United States had a research station with a nuclear reactor, which lived 200 people. It was built right in the ice of the North Pole, and one of its main tasks was to harsh ancient ice drilling to a maximum depth. Well, what you do not start for a hell of a horror movie?
After joining the military Camp Century was converted into a missile silo in ice. According to military plans, here meant to be stored for about six hundred nuclear missiles — sort of a modest nuclear bungalows near by the Soviet Union. Fortunately for Russia (and the Americans), technical problems have led to the curtailment of the project. Maintain tunnels in good condition has been difficult (monthly had to clean 120 tons of ice), and for ten years has been the object buried under the ice thickness.
So to play hide and seek in there now will not work — bummer, comrades, we apologize.
2. Italian "Freemasons" was chosen by the President of the United States
"Propaganda Duo" or the P2 lodge was the "Freemasons" that journalists described as a "shadow government." Their original purpose was to fight communism in Italy, but do not worry — it's just a beautiful story that was invented to make the noble origin. After a couple of suggestions you can be sure of severity of this organization.
In a long list of influential members of the P2 include, among others, and Silvio Berlusconi, also known as an eccentric former prime minister of Italy. This is not idle speculation or conspiracy theorists internet vigilantes — Berlusconi denied membership in the court, but after his lie was exposed, no longer hide this fact.
As for the "shadow" aspects of our history, the only reliable source of information was investigated in 1981 in Italy, during which it was established that P2 has launched its tentacles not only in parliament but also in the armed forces and the press. It was also established the involvement of P2 to murder, kidnapping and arms trafficking. The list includes about a thousand names, most — prominent political figures. Start impressive, is not it? But where is the biggest evil — a large-scale shadow operation, confirming their power on a global level? Or, at worst, a stylish leather gloves with purple ascot (including country-specific)?
We think that the U.S. presidential election — is an appropriate example.
It all started with Billy Carter — a fun and silly brother Jimmy Carter, who took a loan of 220,000 dollars from Libya. Libya was considered the country as a whole country, if not hostile. Of course, the scandal erupted, but a short attention span does not know the policy yesterday: as it happened a few months before the election, a majority of voters in November safely forgotten about the ill-fated embarrassment.
P2 wanted to win Reagan (because he has such a discerning eye and a gorgeous hair style). To this regard, have been involved with several major journalists from the magazine «The New Republic», which were to publish a new story — even during the elections. Journalists have written that Billy not only took from Libya another 50 thousand dollars but also recently held a meeting with the leader of "Palestine Liberation Organization", which is considered a terrorist in America to this day. And all this — just two weeks before the election. Billy and the others implicated in the scandal, strongly denied their guilt (Senate investigation a few years later refute publication), but dirty trick to work. Reagan won in all states except six, most likely — thanks to the backstairs Italian "shadow government."
The numbers speak for themselves:
You can see a lot of light fluctuations in the graphs of the two major candidates, as befits the election. But look at the very end: two weeks after the scandalous publications ranking Reagan rushed up! This is the most dramatic change throughout the schedule. Although, given the "charisma" of Carter, Reagan might not need secret manipulation — who will vote for the man-turtle?
3. Hundreds of nuclear missiles in Cuba after the Cuban Missile Crisis …
All who are not truant in school history, know about the Caribbean crisis. For those who still walk around briefly recall that fear of an American invasion (and unfounded), Cuba asked the Russian nuclear weapons, to have something to respond in the event of an attack. Russia agreed with pleasure. U.S. offended and established a blockade of Cuba. However, in the last decisive moment of a nuclear catastrophe Russia and the United States failed to reach a peace deal. The Soviet Union agreed to withdraw missiles from Cuba, subject to removal of U.S. missiles in Turkey and Italy.
And that's exactly what you did not know, is the fact that the exact number of missiles stationed America could not be established. After the Missile Crisis was officially "finished" in Russia, Cuba was still a hundred nuclear missiles. Since the U.S. did not know about them, and in the contract, these missiles were not included, but because Russia could quite legally transfer them Cubans. But the Soviet leaders who came to Cuba to settle the details found that Castro frostbitten during the entire head. During previous negotiations Cuba's position was ignored completely. Accordingly, on the basis of "Napoleon syndrome" Cubans developed a certain nervousness.
Russian decided that the transfer of missiles to Cuba will be a high probability mean the beginning of World War III. So, they did what they always do politics — lied with three boxes. They told Castro that the secret Russian law prohibits transfer missiles to Cuba for all, and a global nuclear conflict was averted.
This time — for real.
4. State terrorism against France … hippies?
In 1985, the French government has the problem. He desperately needed to conduct nuclear tests in Mururoa, but let this stupid "Greenpeace" with its silly "The Ship" and idiotic "protests" in defense of the absurd "zhizneobitaniya privacy protection." That's the same ragged hippies, eh? The situation is complicated by the fact that the landfill was a part-time French colony showed signs of rebellion, so the French did not want to show weakness, able to direct their discontent … French. After weighing the "pros" and "cons", they made a decision that in their place, would take any other reasonable country. They decided to blow up the "Rainbow Warrior" — a vessel filled with hippies and love to frighten or distract grinpisovtsev and buy time for the nuclear tests.
The operation was uncharacteristic name «Satanique», that as it initially hinted at the perversity of executing their plans. When the "Rainbow Warrior" landed on the shores of New Zealand for the next tactical rasslabona, the operation «Satanique» has begun! The plan was to drive away the entire crew of the ship small bomb explosion, followed by a second larger bomb was to let the ship sink. Everything went like clockwork!
Except for a couple of trivia.
The command "Rainbow Warrior" has returned to sailing ship to assess the damage — two shells in a funnel're not falling. But the funnel funnels, and one ship in New Zealand was "lucky" to explode twice. However, the second blast wounded several people and claimed the life of the photographer — Fernando Pereira.
Seeing that the plan for "breaking of the hippie-navigators" has become "an act of international terrorism", the French began to frantically pull its agents from New Zealand. However, two French spies involved in the operation, were detained and interrogated. The truth was soon released, for French spies appeared extremely weak-willed. The consequences were quite expected: the French President has publicly apologized, the defense minister stepped down shameful, "Greenpeace" has received a mountain of money, while France has suspended a terrible ordeal …
And they resumed a decade later, blowing up in the same place God knows how many megatons. Well what do you expect from those who call their special operation "satanic"?
5. Secret Army private who ruled Europe
After the Second World War, the U.S. has faced a number of challenges. The war has claimed many lives, the country falling apart, there were new frontier. Europe basically turned into a very appetizing piece of civilization to which greedily dragged the Soviet Union. Therefore, the U.S. developed the "Operation Gladio". Simply put, it was created by a secret paramilitary formation, acting informally throughout Europe with the sole purpose — to fight against communism. The facts are not very many (Army-that was still secret), but this is clearly not just another crazy theory: the existence of "Gladio" was confirmed by several governments. On account of the organization's major crimes such as attempted murder of the Pope, big explosions and abduction of several high-ranking government officials. They were willing to do anything in the name of anti-communism: the murders, extortion. They could even become communists themselves, if that was necessary for the case.
Again, special honors Italian department of "Gladio" (which is not surprising, because it is they have created Machiavelli game «Assasins's Creed»). In the clandestine activity was involved, even quite indifferent to anti-communist president of Italy — Francesco Cossiga. So what? All normal presidents do so! Or had to say, "Thank you for the trust you guys from the secret military organization, but I think I'll pass?"
Such a response, in all probability, would not very far-sighted. For the reason that we still know so little about the "Gladio" — a kaleidoscope of bloody murders.
When another Italian president — Aldo Moro gave the Communists the opportunity to join the government, he was suddenly kidnapped and executed. His body was found in the trunk of a car parked near the former site of gladiator fights. The word «gladio» — is derived from the ancient Roman short sword, which is often used gladiators who fought in the arena. A month later, after a former colonel who commanded the operations of "Gladio" in Switzerland, wrote a letter to the Government, which expressed his willingness to "tell the truth", he was found dead in his home. He was stabbed to death by his own bayonet, and on his chest was the mysterious letters that can not be decrypted.
At this point, admittedly, there is no direct evidence pointing to the direct involvement of "Gladio" in whatever it may be. There are only a few of brutal murders and gloomy events. And the fear generated by them, which is like a sticky web of researchers from holding any further steps.
And, in fact, who needs it?
