Sibur began commercial production of thermoplastic elastomers in Voronezh

Voronezh, 19 August 2013

At the Voronezh area SIBUR put into operation a new production of advanced polymer materials for road construction and roofing — butadiene-styrene thermoplastic elastomers (TEPov). Production reached its design capacity, which is 50 thousand tons per year.

Technological stage commissioning of the new plant was completed 72 hours mileage of all the equipment in the presence of representatives of the company, the licensor. At the stage of the finished product, each line isolation worked with a nominal design load.

At the end of the licensor on the results of comprehensive tests was a high level of construction activities and overall pre-production TEP-50 to the beginning of commercial operation as well as full compliance with technology transferred under the license agreement. According to the licensor, "the level of operational readiness of personnel and equipment produces high-quality products in the amounts determined by the base project."

"The new production goes to work in the industrial mode of operation and maintenance, — said General Director of" Voronezhsintezkauchuk "Victor KUKLIN. — This will allow consumers to receive additional amounts of advanced polymeric materials for road construction and production of roofing. "

By commissioning work on a new production of SIBUR started May 23 in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Thermoplastic elastomers — materials that combine the properties of rubber and plastics. The major scope of TEPov — the production of polymer-bitumen binders (PBB) used to improve the wear resistance of the upper layers of the pavement. WSP provide increased maintenance periods of service of pavement from 3-4 years to 7-10 years.

The use of polymer-bitumen binders in the repair and construction of roads in Russia has significant growth potential. From 2009 to 2012 the consumption of the WSP in Russia increased by 5.6 times. The share of polymer-bitumen binder in the total consumption of road bitumen in our country for the past three years has increased from 1% to 3%, while it is still significantly lower than in other European countries, the United States and Canada. For comparison, in Germany the figure is more than 30%[1].

Butadiene-styrene thermoplastic elastomer used in the manufacture of roofing, composite materials, footwear compositions, mastics, adhesives, sealants.

Of the 85 thousand tons TEPov, which is planned to produce at the Voronezh area, we can produce more than 2 million tons of EMB. This volume is sufficient for the production of more than 20 thousand kilometers of four-lane highway, which is more than half of the federal road network in Russia.

SIBUR is a unique vertically integrated gas processing and petrochemical company. SIBUR owns and operates the largest gas processing business in Russia in terms of associated petroleum gas and petrochemical industry is the leader of the country.

As of March 31, 2013 SIBUR worked on their own 27 production sites located in different regions of Russia. We sell our products to more than 1500 major customers in the energy sector, automotive, construction, production of consumer goods, chemical and other industries in over 60 countries around the world. The number of employees of the Group at the end of the 1st quarter amounted to more than 30,000 people.
