Alexander Burbis — a man of the theater and politics

Today marks 125 years since the birth of the leader of the national liberation movement and the culture of the Belarusian Alexander Burbisa. This is someone who organically connected to his life to politics and theater.

Burbis worked Narkamzemu officer and Deputy People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs of the Byelorussian SSR, was one of the founders of the Belarusian Socialist Gromada and the first Belarusian trade unions. However, Alexander Burbis actively participated in the First Belarusian corpse I.Buynitskogo and Belarusian musical drama club, translations for productions Polish, Russian, Ukrainian plays, performed comedy and dramatic roles.

For the organization of strikes was arrested and while serving a conclusion contracted tuberculosis, which in the end it and "finished off".

On the symbolic figure of the then present-day Belarus and in an interview with the historian Igor Korney, chairman of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) Anatol Sidorevich.

The roots: Mr. Sidorevich, can we consider the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) that you are heading in a certain sense, the heiress AAH, which stood at the origins of Alexander Burbis?

Sidorevich: We are creating a party, once wrote in his program that it is the successor of the traditions of the Belarusian Socialist Gromada 1903-1918 period. If we look at the very first program of BSG, then read what the purpose of the party — the achievement of independence of Belarus. And this goal was unchanged. So we have the first thing that has been written, and for that we were — is the independence of Belarus. This differs us from all the other left-wing organizations, who then tried to create. And even created.

The roots: The Social-Democrats of the early twentieth century and today's sample, two big differences?

Sidorevich: Of course, different times, different people, different languages. But I would not say that the difference is very significant. The Social Democrats, the Socialists at the Belarusian beginning of the twentieth century were superior to the current, first, its nachytanastsyu that the socialist literature, and second, their self-sacrifice. If we begin to enumerate these martyrs for the idea of social justice and self-determination, Belarus, and Ivan Lutskevich, and aunt, and the same Burbis — they did not live to adulthood. They took tuberculosis and other diseases. Well, can the third feature of these people is that they combined the political and cultural figures. This tends to be people fully developed (I mean the leaders of the first), and political activities are combined with cultural, educational activities, were educators, archaeologists, artists, directors, actors. In the end they understood that natsyyatvorchasts always implies kulturatvorchasts. And the political ideal of Belarusian socialists could not win without the cultural and educational work.

The rootsThe fact that Alexander Burbis finally went over to the Bolsheviks, is still quite ambiguously perceived in a democratic environment …

Sidorevich: Burbis not immediately went over to the Bolsheviks, he then moved when I saw that they are beginning to do something for Belarus. That is, I saw that in the manual are not alone Myasnikyan Belarus, Kalmanovich, Knorin but Tchervyakov Ignatovskiy other figures. But by going to the Bolsheviks, Burbis never became a Bolshevik. He belongs to the brilliant galaxy of Belarusian politicians, which is called the national communists. We can say that in a certain sense, Alexander Lavrenavichu Burbis lucky as his party comrade Stepan Bulat, who bathed dedicated his famous poem "They died too early." We know what fate befell the national communists Dmitry Zhilunovicha, Chervyakova Alexander, Joseph Dylu and others.

The roots: Which of the ideas Burbisa could adopt today?

Sidorevich: If you continue the theme "National Bolsheviks and Communists", the latter being closer to social democracy, and, in fact, they went out of there. I repeat: the people were extremely well-read. When the Bolsheviks loved to read the early Marx, Marx's Communist Manifesto era, the Belarusian Social-Democrats, national communists read the late Engels. And one of the main ideas of the late Engels that national liberation can not be without social liberation. Internationalism, about which a lot of the Bolsheviks said, is possible only between equals, ie, independent nations. Therefore, this ideal, we can not take. And this difference of the Belarusian Social-Democrats united in our party, from others who call themselves social democrats or left-wing parties.

The roots: Burbis — a vivid example of combining high politics and theater. But it is hardly unique, since the beginning of the last century, has publicly voiced citizenship and poets, writers, artists, and other representatives of the national culture. In your opinion, the degree of politicization of the creative elite then was higher than now?

SidorevichI would so emphatically, perhaps, did not. For example, swim did not belong to any party. Some other writers, too, does not formally belong to any party. But I will agree, there was a strong degree of politicization is not so much how many citizenship. Today it is possible to know, in today's postmodern be apolitical and not even citizens. Write about anything, but not about the person. Sometimes I think they just do not know the man. If the writer has a deep knowledge of psychology, sociology, man, he does not work for one and not two days. A postmodern fashion — not to be a citizen and not a politician. Fruitfully it or not productive? Well, I do not see in this post-modern currents of exceptional talent. I could have exceptional talents counted on the fingers of one hand. But here's one more thing. The Bolsheviks were fed policy makers. And demonstrated, afishavanaya apolitical — a kind of delayed reaction to the Bolshevik politicized. Bolsheviks long gone, but they still subconsciously fight against Bolshevism.

The roots: Approaching significant political campaign, but among the candidates in candidate for the presidency is only one creative person — a poet Nyaklyayeu. This is first. Second, why the Social Democrats are not as active as compared to other political parties and movements struggling for power in Belarus? Perhaps the idea of today is not so in demand?

Sidorevich: It so happened that all the leftist forces of Belarus does not have a candidate. Although, for example, Yuri Glushakov on conscientious man left. But did not try to be supported by all the left-wing parties. With regard to activity, here I disagree. I could name dozens of names of party members, who are actively working. However, not a single candidate, and several Democratic candidates. And the work is quite fruitful. We urge people to take part in the election campaign, in observation. And I am convinced that Belarus takes on December 19 in a new phase of its development. It is beyond doubt. While on the other side of officialdom psychologically preparing us for the next galyantnay victory. In Saturday's issue of "Stars" can be seen tablets, according to which Alexander Grigoryevich already provided support for 62-plus percent of voters. Well, neshtachka there like 0.3%, accounts for Vladimir Neklyaeva. That's just called and training elegant victory.
