Risk of forest fires this summer will be no higher than in 2011 and 2010, told the Russian direktorGidromettsentra Roman Vilfand.
"While the number of fires is expected to be at the level of the previous three years. Given that in 2009 there was much more," — said Vilfand.
Abnormally hot summer of 2010 resulted in a very large number of fires in the European part of Russia, but in Siberia forest burned less than usual. At the same time, the total area of forest affected by fire in 2009, was higher than in 2010.
"In the European part of Russia, we do not foresee a high fire risk except in Kalmykia and the south of the Urals Federal District," — said Vilfand.
According to him, the increased risk of fires expected in southern Yakutia, south of Krasnoyarsk Krai and Khabarovsk Krai.
However, he added that in July and August increased fire danger may arise in the Volga region.
