EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton said his deep sorrow sentenced former presidential candidate Nikolai Statkevich and Dmitri Usu.
"These politically motivated verdicts represent a step backwards in that as regards respect to Belarus Human Rights, the rule of law and democratic principles, "- said in a statement, Ashton.
The representative of the European Union called for an end to repression against the political opposition, Civil Society and independent media.
"I find it unacceptable the existence of political prisoners in the heart of Europe in the XXI century and call for their immediate release and rehabilitation," — said Ashton, Interfax reported.
