October 29, 1937 — the blackest day in the history of Belarusian literature. For one night from the 29th to the 30th NKVD executioners shot the whole group of writers, among them Anatoly Free, Plato Holovatch, Ales Dudar, Michas Zaretsky, Valery Mariners Michas Reed and others, a total of 22 people.
In 1942 the German Nazis together with Ukrainian police killed 16,000 Jews in Pinsk. A 29 October 1952 there was blown up in Pinsk synagogue — the oldest in the lands of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
