The area of forest fires in Russia in 2012 decreased by 1.2 times

The area of forest fires in 2012 was 746,000 hectares, which is 1.2 times less than in the same period of 2011, according to the materials to the FFA press conference "Forest fires in Russia."

"In 2012, there was 10.8 thousands of forest fires in the area of 746,000 hectares. Compared to the same period in 2011, the number of fires and the area covered by them, were reduced by 1.2 times. During the same period in 2011 there was 13.3 thousand fires in the area of 880.5 thousand hectares, "- said the FFA.

It clarifies the agency this year fires in the south of Eastern Siberia and the Far East began two to three weeks earlier than usual.

According to FFA, most burned forests of Transbaikalia (398,000 hectares) and Buryatia (70.5 thousand hectares).
