Westerwelle warns Lukashenko regarding repression

German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said today, on the eve of the scheduled for Tuesday's visit to Minsk, that on the eve of the presidential election is going to bring to the Belarusian leadership is very crisp and clear political message to Europe.

In an interview with «Sueddeutsche Zeitung», he said in part: "We will not interfere in the election campaign, however, give a clear political message as to what we observe with great concern for the state repression on the eve of the presidential elections."

Together with his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski, which will also arrive on November 2 in the Belarusian capital, Guido Westerwelle meet with Belarusian Minister Foreign Affairs Sergei Martynov, and the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, the other candidates for the presidency.

According «Sueddeutsche Zeitung», Westerwelle intends to remind the Belarusian leadership that transparent election campaign — is, including, and sufficient capacity for action of various parties and Civil Society, including their free access to the media.

According to the head of the German Foreign Office, if Belarus will choose for themselves a democratic way, Europe will continue to open up for her.
