What is the language spoken princes ON?

Dear Mr. Orlov, one can definitely say that the Belarusian language was in the ON state? What language, for example, said Gediminas or Vytautas?

Buduchy civilized people and leaders of poly-ethnicity of the state, the Grand Dukes Gediminas and Vytautas, like their predecessors and immediate followers, knew several languages, including those able to find a common language with his subjects-bolts. (According to some reports, in the last prince, who knew their language was Kazimir Yagaylovich.) However, in the political, economic and cultural life of the Principality dominated the Belarusian land. Quite naturally the language of our ancestors in the second half of the XIV century, it became the country's state (and retained that status until 1696).

The Old Belarusian language spoken then all the grand courtyard of Vilnius. It worked the State Chancellery. Preserved evidence that Algirdas perfect mastery of the German language, but with the ambassadors of the Teutonic Knights always spoke through an interpreter — "in Ruthenian," in other words — and what was then the Byelorussian. German envoy, who arrived in Vilnius, wrote in his diary that "in the Ruthenian" said Vytautas and all the courtiers. A great example for some of today's politicians.

Our language — one of the oldest state-owned national languages in Europe. English became the official language in1362nd year, the French — in1400 m.

In the old Belarusian created and published all codes of law of the state, among which the most perfect in Europe Statute of 1588. In the language of our forefathers wrote the decision Sojm. It was actively used in the diplomatic correspondence with Moscow and other neighboring countries. There is not a state document of the Grand Duchy, which would be written in Lithuanian (in the modern sense of the word). It is not surprising, as the language spoken by the ancestors of today's Lithuanians — zhamoyty, until the XVI century, has never had a written language. According to historical sources and the fact that, going into some zhamoytami populated area of the state, Vilnius grand-ducal officials took with them interpreters in Belarus and Belarusian.

Going to any zhamoytami populated area of the state, Vilnius grand-ducal officials took with them interpreters in Belarus and Belarusian.

Old Belarusian language was also annals and chronicles the many works of art. Perhaps you would be interested to know how she sounded in the literary language version. Emphasizing its importance as the state, the Grand Chancellor Leo Sapieha proudly wrote: "And if the people who vstyd not know their rights, especially us who are not obchym kind of language, but its own right, we have written off and affect each time, what we need to resist ku any offense, know we can. " By the way, in the Polish kingdom all institutions — both secular and spiritual — were in office at the time incomprehensible to ordinary people in Latin.

In Belarusian compiled a huge variety of materials so-called Lithuanian Metrics (archive of the Grand Chancellery), which has more than 600 volumes. The vast majority of them in the nineteenth century, it was taken to Russia. If the1920 Bolshevik government signed a peace agreement with the independent Lithuania, the one claiming the heritage of the Grand Duchy, demanded the return metrics. One of the invited experts — Belarusian historian Mitro Dovnar-Zapolskii proposed that the Lithuanians all documents in their language. In hundreds of volumes of metrics, not one.

In this same case, Lithuanians seeking help and to the chairman of exile government BNR Vaclav Lastovskogo. He instructed to prepare a draft agreement, which agreed to the transfer of Lithuania of documents written in the language of that state. In turn, the petitioners must abandon forever the documents written in Belarusian. The Lithuanian government official and happily signed the agreement, as evidenced by witnesses, was trying to operate them in Moscow "on a big embarrassment of his superiors."

Most of the modern Lithuanian historian, unfortunately, not yet mature enough to recognize the Old Belarusian language of the state of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Having no reason to call it a Lithuanian, they persist in spite of the obvious facts invent other names — for example, "the official Slavic" or even just "office."

Maybe we should not argue with them. The main thing — to know ourselves. As legendary Chinese sage Lao Tzu, the most stubbornly argue the one who either does not know or want to hide the truth.
