Baltic Fleet armed with a one-time pear

To the Baltic Fleet received new unmanned reconnaissance systems "Pear", created in one of the units of concern "Izhmash" for the GRU. With their help, the Navy intelligence plan to inspect the next 10 km shoreline in front of the enemy landing on his landing. However, the General Staff claim that the UAV is not suitable for long term use, especially in terms of troop combat.

— "Pear" conveys only a picture, and without reference to the terrain. A whole range of information — the type of target, the distance between objects — it is not available, — said the representative of the General Staff.

He added that initially the "pear" developed for the visual detection of militant camps in Chechnya. And the machines would be used in a disposable mode, so their consumer properties no one thought much. Therefore, they are not suitable for severe operating loads. However, when a part of the transition to digital communication and control of UAVs needed the Army and Navy, decided to take this waste complex.

As told to "News" in the "Izhmash", a set of eight "airplanes" and two laptops with the control system (software based on Windows XP) is about 2.5 million. Each unit is equipped with two digital cameras that can record images in the visual range. Matrix resolution and magnifying properties of optical devices admitted to the Baltic, were not disclosed.

— Thermal (infrared camera), there can not be attached — it's too heavy. But to put a matrix with higher resolution — you can. But it will have more money — said one of the developers of "Pears".

According to him, the camera can be transmitted through secure communication channels in real time on the computer, and may be written to the flash card, if, for example, to ensure radio silence.

Themselves "planes" are equipped with an electric motor and two-blade may be in the air 75 minutes. During this time, the apparatus can overcome 10km altitude from 500 to 1000 m, and back again. The "rule" they do not need — "Pear" is flying on autopilot at designated points on a digital map. To change the trajectory of its flight, it is enough to change these terms. This automation allows to use the device without complicated preparation operators. Runs "Pear" with it.

Most of the components of which are collected "Pear" — imported. Notebooks, on which there is a control system entirely purchased from Panasonic. From Russia there is only software, body, engine, and a transmitter, while the transmitter uses imported parts.

Despite this, the "Pear" — the Russian system, and it is better to buy than willing to foreign systems, the head of the Center for Military Forecasting Anatoly Tsiganok.

— The main thing is to shoot and revealed. Today, without the co-operation is impossible. Even in the United States one-third of equipment for the aerospace industry — China. Because it is cheaper — said Tsiganok.

He stressed that despite all the shortcomings, "Pears" buy for the money can not be fully working system.

Now dozens of "Pears" is used GRU and Airborne units. To the Baltic Fleet brought two sets, the work with which month will be dealt with Marine commanders for intelligence and infantry units Baltic Fleet coastal troops. After that, the army will put a few more sets. Over time, this drone will be equipped with a battalion of the Russian Army.
