The EU plans to start negotiations with Belarus on visa facilitation

At the beginning of 2011 between Belarus and the European Union to begin negotiations on visa facilitation, reducing the cost of visas and readmission.

This was announced, speaking on "Minsk Forum", the Latvian Ambassador to Belarus Michael Popkovs, Interfax reports.

"October 25 at the meeting of the Supreme Council of the EU policy has been progress in the preparation of the presidential elections and the willingness to ensure broad participation in these international observers. EU Council also discussed the mandate to negotiate with the Republic of Belarus the two agreements: the liberalization of the visa regime and readmission, "- he said.

Negotiations can start early 2011a.

The ambassador also said that Latvia and Belarus signed an agreement on the facilitation of border-crossing the border population.

"We expect to fully respect to Latvia this agreement will begin to work in the second half of next year," — said the diplomat.

Chairman of the "Minsk Forum" Rainer Lindner, for his part, said that the agreement on simplification of visa regime with the EU for Belarus must signed in Brussels without regard to the assessment of the presidential election.
