A strong wind swept last night in eastern France, tearing the roof uprooting trees and overturning cars. In the famous ski resort of Chamonix falling trees damaged homes.
Was closed for several hours Alpine Blanc tunnel connecting France and Italy, a high voltage cable fell right before the entrance to the tunnel.
"It seemed that the world will end! It was a terrible noise, the wind howled, and we were afraid that our house will take all," — says a resident of Upper Savoy.
The penultimate "orange" threat level has been declared in five French departments.
But meteorologists warn that heavy wind expected in other regions of the country.
"It is important to explain to people that you have to be careful, new winds are expected next week, and to avoid walking through the woods and along the roads in the forest belt," — said a police spokesman.
Because of damage to power lines tens of thousands of homes were left without electricity.
Emergency services continue to work on clearing the roads.
