Abakan river clogged with loose ice, congestion threatens to flood

Abakan river bed, which is the main threat to infrastructure and the population of Khakassia in flood, scored shugoy — small loose ice, which can form when icing congestion, said on Thursday the Center for Hydrometeorology Khakassia.

"Today, the ice conditions do not seem rampant. Pre thickness of ice until you see nothing. But our concern is that all mainstream scored shugoy, very little water," — said the chief meteorologist Vagif Huseynov at the meeting of the Republican Commission on Emergency.

It is now decided to avoid explosions of ice jams in the two rivers — the city and the village Abaza Bely Yar. According to the emergency department of central board of Khakassia, blasting tentatively scheduled for the end of March — beginning of April.

Huseynov added that the forecast of high water, as well as the timing of opening of the rivers will be announced on or after April 1. However, according to preliminary data, in the spring of Khakassia is prolonged, so opening the rivers can occur about a week later than usual dates (mid-April).
