Magnitude 5.2 earthquake occurred in western Iran

Earthquake of magnitude 5.2 occurred on Tuesday in western Iran, the website of the U.S. Geological Survey.

According to the service, ground level were recorded at 10.20 local time (10.50 MSK). The earthquake lies at a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was located 127 kilometers south-west of the Iranian city of Isfahan.

Information on casualties or damage were reported.

Iran is among the ten most earthquake-prone regions of the world, there is almost every 10 years, an earthquake with magnitude greater than 7.0. Thus, in December 2003, 6.3 magnitude earthquake victims in Bam in the south-east of the country were more than 31 thousand people, about 42 thousand were injured. The city itself, as well as the famous fortress was destroyed almost completely.
