The engine is a dreamFour years back, February 1, 2008, under the auspices of the European Union was launched Project DREAM. Title of the project, similar to the English word "dream" is almost stands still more difficult: ValiDation of Radical Engine Architecture systeMs — Check structurally modern architecture motor. The aim of the project was to create a radically DREAM newest design an aircraft engine that combines within himself efficiency turboprop and turbojet power, but devoid of drawbacks of these schemes. Since the creation of at least some modern stuff is complicated, the European Union immediately attracted to the project of 44 companies from 13 countries, including from Russia. Our country in the European program there were the Central Institute of Aviation Motors (CIAM) and the Central Aero-Hydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI).

Work on the project DREAM from the outset have been divided into six areas which were constantly interaction, mixed and "spilled over" into each other:
— SP0. Administration and coordination of the work of different organizations;
— SP1. Study of the concept of modern architecture motor;
— SP2 and SP3. Studies on other propulsion;
— SP4. Research in the field of new technologies that can be applied to promising engines;
— SP5. Experiments with other fuels.

Of all the options considered by another promising build aircraft engines in the first year of work, scientists engaged in DREAM, choose a scheme with the so-called propeller-open rotor fan. This means that, unlike conventional propeller-fan propulsion systems, on the new engine saber blade on the hub is not installed in front of the engine, and in particular movable ring associated with the turbine engine effectively. The blades of a special form, coupled with their placement in the rear of the nacelle and thrust of the jet engine to help significantly better properties of the motor. At the same thrust as that of the conventional turbofan engine, the engine open rotor makes less noise and consume 10-15% less fuel. The largest contribution to the forthcoming increase in fuel efficiency have made new saber blade. Checking the descent of several of their design was carried out in the Russian institute TsAGI. At the current time the engines made in the course of the project DREAM, there is a single specimen and are purely laboratory standards. Modify it for the practical implementation until no one is going. At the same time, acquired in the course of research on programmke data will be used in the near future for the creation of so-called Motor 2025. According to the not so long ago hosted a press release, project DREAM scientists gave everything that they wanted to get away from him. Because after four years of successful and fruitful work project closed. Soon he will come to replace that Engine 2025.
