Emergency mode introduced in the second district of Rostov region due to drought

 State of emergency was introduced in Upper Don district of Rostov region, where the drought has killed nearly 8.9 thousand hectares of winter crops, said the Southern Regional Emergency Center.

In late May, emergency mode due to soil and atmospheric drought was introduced in the area of Zavetinskom, killing crops in area of 27.5 hectares.

"As a result of adverse weather conditions — prolonged spring drought — from April 1 to May 22 in the Upper Don district killed winter crops on the area of 8.899 hectares. Decision of the local administration in the emergency mode is entered," — said the press service.

Farm managers, heads of farms is recommended in precipitation organize additional late sowing of grain and forage crops. Department of Agriculture and Environment of the district administration is preparing materials for damages.

Abnormal drought observed in Russia in 2010 — then the heat lost about 20% of all cultivated land, or 30% of grain crops, and the harvest has fallen by more than 30%, to 61 million tonnes. The grain harvest in 2011 totaled 93.9 million tons in net weight. Experts of the Russian Grain Union, expressed concern about the new drought this year due to record-high air pressure in the European part of Russia.
