Leak of about 40 thousand barrels of oil occurred at the mining company the Dutch-British oil company Royal Dutch Shell in the territorial waters of Nigeria, the company said.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at the Bonga field during tanker loading oil. Work at the plant, the capacity of which is 200 thousand barrels per day, is suspended.
Bonga field is located 120 kilometers to the southwest of the Niger Delta.
"We regret the leak occurred. As soon as we heard about it, we stopped neftepotok and mobilized their own resources, as well as industry expertise, to ensure that the impact will be minimized," — said the head of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Mathieu Sanmonu (Mutiu Sunmonu).
In addition, the head of Nigeria's "daughter" Shell said that now the focus of the company is operational and effective cleaning of the area of leakage.
