Scientists are discussing the need for better detection of asteroids and meteorites

Cosmic surprise that fell on Russia and Kazakhstan on 15 February, astronomers immediately called to action. A number of experts have declared their intention to start work on the establishment of modern space object detection invading the Earth's atmosphere to anticipate unwanted visits to asteroids and meteorites, and be able to make more accurate predictions about the outcome of their flight.

Particularly serious scientists plan to treat the issue of detection is not very large, but potentially dangerous space debris for several days or even weeks before their entry into the atmosphere. Such early detection would allow a leisurely evacuation areas that could be affected by the collision. If meteors fall into the ocean, in the presence of early warning systems can react in a timely manner and to a tsunami.
The American company "Technology deep sky" to the end of the decade is about to launch into space a group of small spacecraft that will explore around Earth asteroids for the presence of these minerals. With this purpose the ships are fully capable to perform the function of the detection of objects in space, which can trigger another on February 15. Incidentally, the fact that the approach of asteroid 2012 da14 to our planet and the meteor rain over Chelyabinsk occurred in one day, all the experts have called amazing coincidence.
University of Hawaii, in turn, offered for such purposes to use a cheaper and simpler system, known as ATLAS (the alert system of the invasion of asteroids), the development of which are conducted at NASA. The system will work eight telescopes with powerful cameras. They are to be installed in 2015 in Hawaii, where, thanks to the clear air will be much easier to make accurate observations. The period for which ATLAS will warn of the approach of a small asteroid ("murderer" urban scale) would be about a week. For a larger object ("killer" on a national scale) term triples.
