The government has established a national park in Chukotka Beringia

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree on the establishment of the National Park "Beringia" in the Chukotka Peninsula, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers.

"The National Park with total area of 1819454 hectares of land created by the water fund, reserve lands and agricultural lands (without removing them from the economic exploitation) in Providenskiy, Chukotka and Iultinsky municipalities Chukotka and transferred to the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia", — said in a statement .

Creation of the national park provides the concept of development of specially protected natural territories of federal significance for the period up to 2020 in order to preserve the unique natural and historical sites of the tundra and the coast of the Chukchi Peninsula, tourism and the creation of environmental education in the region.

On the territory of "Beringia" will operate special protection, the work of the park will be financed from the federal budget.
