Background radiation at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the normal range — the civil service

Radiation and fire at the Chernobyl nuclear power state, where on Tuesday there was a partial collapse of the roof panels and is in the normal range, said on Wednesday the State Service of Ukraine of Emergencies.

It clarifies the agency, the collapse occurred on Tuesday at 14 o'clock (16.00 MSK) at the industrial site of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant — partially collapsed wall panels and roofing machine room unit № 4, the area of destruction was about 600 square meters. No one is hurt.

"Radiation and fire condition in the normal range. Event is controlled by the State Service of Ukraine of Emergencies," — said in a statement.

The Chernobyl accident occurred on April 26, 1986. Fourth power station exploded. The total area of radioactive contamination in Ukraine in the crash was 50 square kilometers in 12 areas. In addition, the contamination affected 19 Russian regions with an area of almost 60,000 square kilometers and a population of 2.6 million, and 46.5 thousand square kilometers in Belarus (23% of total area).

After the emergency unit of the state of emergency station was built sarcophagus, which in recent years has gradually destroyed. Ukrainian authorities want to turn Chernobyl into a safe system with the help of the "Shelter" (confinement), which will be a building in the form of an arch 105 meters high, 150 meters long and 260 meters wide.
