Belarus disabled the pipeline Polotsk-Ventspils

The Russian company "Transneft" has disconnected from Belarus pipeline Polotsk-Ventspils.

According to the newspaper, the decision of the Latvian-Russian company LatRosTrans about merging process oil from the pipeline Polotsk — Ventspils (northern branch of the oil pipeline "Druzhba") was a blow to the plans of Minsk. Belarus hopes to use the pipeline for a quick and cheap Venezuelan oil pumping from the port to the refinery Ventspilsu "Naftan".

Belarus also suffered financial losses in the pipeline Polotsk — Ventspils were about 150,000 tons of crude oil worth about $ 90 million.

REM edition reminds that the company LatRosTrans announced its proprietary technology to oil and the beginning of its withdrawal from the pipeline on November 25.

"Belneftekhim" protests

Concern "Belneftekhim" said that "the technological displacement of oil from the oil pipeline Polotsk — Ventspils deprive Belarus and Latvia prospects of sharing." In the "alienating" were also outraged that the works were not allowed employees Novopolotsk national oil transportation enterprise "Druzhba", although part of the pipeline passes through the territory of Belarus

But the conflict in the actually not the Belarusian-Latvian and Belarusian-Russian — between Minsk and the Russian "Transneft".

Company "Transnefteprodukt", "daughter" of "Transneft", owns 34% of the fund LatRosTrans — the operator of the pipeline. A spokesman of "Transneft" Igor Demin first reported that an oil pipeline Polotsk — Ventspils and Polotsk — Mazeikiai will preserve them after draining of process oil. According to Demin, the decision to drain the oil was made due to "high risk man-made disaster."

Closer than from Odessa

Oil transit through Latvia on the Polotsk-Ventspils is much shorter than the 674-kilometer transit tunnel Odessa — Brody pipeline, which with 2011and Belarus and Ukraine signed an agreement.

Whole this year concern "Belneftekhim" negotiated with the Latvian company "VentspilsNafta" on the use of an oil terminal in the port of Ventspilsu and pipeline Polotsk-Ventspils oil supplies to Belarusian refineries on "Naftan".

Belarus is ready to defend its interests in relation to the pipeline Polotsk — Ventspils. As one of the solutions to the conflict concern "Belneftekhim" offers entry Novopolotsk national oil transportation enterprise "Druzhba" in the composition of the company LatRosTrans by making as a contribution to capital assets LatRosTrans oil, located in the main oil pipeline Polotsk — Ventspils (the same which is now fused to the order of "Transneft").
