Tomorrow Was the War?

Authorities Turkey announced that its brand new political strategy asks significant expansion of the presence of naval forces of the country in the eastern Mediterranean. This directly threatens the interests of Greece and Israel in the region.

Word "Barbarossa" (Redbeard) in the collective memory of different nations have different meanings. The peoples of the former USSR, it definitely associated with the Nazi plan of military aggression, implemented June 22, 1941. In Western European nations — with a medieval king of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Friedrich I. civilization. And the Islamic peoples of the Mediterranean — a very bright character beginning of the era of modern times, who at birth was given the name Azor, but became known as Haydreddin, or else (another spelling) as Khair-ud-Din.

In the coming time, this same word has a chance to buy a fourth value, which on its own negative connotations overshadow the value of all the past. After all, it can become an emblem of the modern large-scale war, the consequences of which can be, in a sense, even bigger consequences of the events of 1941. Unless, of course, the main actors, on which the future development of the situation, went out and brought a decent ways out of the current crisis unfolding in these days are almost at our sight.

So: September 7, the Turkish authorities have said that her brand new political strategy asks the presence of a significant expansion of the naval forces of the country in the eastern Mediterranean. As part of the relocation of the Turkish Navy of the Dark Sea of Marmara and the Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea will be transferred by two anti-missile frigates and corvettes, and auxiliary vessels. Recently the Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu announced that his country wants to increase its military presence in the eastern Mediterranean "to protect the freedom of navigation."

Ships out there who will be on duty, will be accompanied by a group of vessels intruding established by Israel naval blockade of the Gaza Strip, and if necessary by force pave the way. Right behind it, the Minister for contacts with the EU Egemen Bagis, claiming that the Turkish Navy does not allow a member of the EU Republic Cyprus search for oil and gas in the Mediterranean. This move was in response to the information companies Noble Energy (USA) and Delek (Israel) to start exploration on the shelf in the economic waters of Cyprus. Turkey does not recognize agreements signed by Cyprus and Israel and Lebanon on the delimitation of economic zones — say, they violate the rights of the unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Well, soon joined the battle languid political artillery. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed that the Turkish warships will be oriented to the sea borders of Israel and Cyprus. Erdogan took over full responsibility, he says, he ordered warships to accompany Turkish civilian ships carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip (which, it should be added is controlled by the Islamist Hamas constructive) and join in the fight, if the newest fleet with goods in international waters will be attacked, also hinder Cyprus offshore exploration in the Mediterranean Sea.

That's exactly these tasks (perhaps some others, as it does not go) and has a new plan "Barbarossa".

All of these demarches have caused sharp responses from Israel and Greece, and the responses are not only verbal. Israel visited the Greek Defense Minister Panos Beglitis, which met with Defense Minister Ehud Barak and signed a new agreement on cooperation in the field of security.

In other words, it is about the traditional escalation of tensions in the eastern Mediterranean, which takes place before our eyes.

And the action unfolds on. September 17, the Turkish side had made two statements. On the eighth Yalta benefit of annual meeting "Ukraine and the World: Common Challenges, Common Future" Minister for EU Affairs Egemen Bagis stressed that the European Union has double standards in relation to different countries. According to him, such a position of the EU has already led to what is now in Turkey, only 8% of the population definitely believes that the EU — is the choice of the country, while 30% are against joining the European Union.

And according to Deputy Prime Minister Beshir Atalay, whose words are quoted by Reuters, Turkey will stop all business with the EU if Cyprus will chair the EU in the coming year. Recall that the peninsula of Cyprus is divided into two parts: 60% controlled by the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus, a member of the UN and the EU, populated in the main by the Greeks and the rest — the authorities of the unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which is located on the ground troops in Turkey. The latter does not recognize the sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus, because the statement of Vice-Premier is quite reasonable: "If the peace negotiations (with Cyprus) will not give the result, and the EU will do its chairman southern Cyprus, between Turkey and the EU will be a real crisis … We will freeze our affairs with the European Union … We announce that, as the government has taken a decision. "

It should be added that in the near future, Turkey has complicated the case not only with Israel, Greece, Cyprus and the entire European Union, and with Syria and Iran. In addition, the sharp critical remarks were heard from the lips of Erdogan and the address in the United States. That still may mean such radicalization words and deeds of Ankara?

It seems that the question is not about a random course of events, and not on personal whim overbearing Recep Erdogan. We are talking about trying to change the policy of Turkey constructively and seriously reconsider the merits of the time of Ataturk. And in order to realize the new policy of the Turkish Republic should refer to the main word that symbolizes this change — the word "Barbarossa".

The Western media have reacted to the title of the plan of the Turkish Navy message that Turkish (More precisely, Ottoman) admiral Barbarossa in the XVI century led naikrupneyshy pirate fleet in the Mediterranean. This is true, but far not all. Barbarossa was born into a Christian family, his father, and he embraced Islam when the peninsula of Lesbos, where they lived, the Ottomans captured. Azor made a quick career as a pirate, just serving the Sultan of the Ottoman Porte. In this combination, there was nothing unusual — Sir Francis Drake headed for the rank of admiral, too, thanks to the exploits of a pirate, but in the service of other nascent empire — the English. But Barbarossa just robbed and won: he deliberately devastated the populations of the "infidels" (ie Christians) areas, destroying the town and sold the 10's of thousands of captives into slavery. For its military and political acts Barbarossa received from the Sultan venerable right to be called Khair ad-Din ("Guardian of the faith").

Clear symbolism, is not it? Clear — and it was impossible not so long ago in a much modified once the reforms of Kemal Ataturk in Turkey …

Now it looks to Turkey completely organic. "Cleaning the" military control of Islamist enemies, even moderate, which confesses the ruling Justice and Development Party, guaranteeing for themselves with the help of high entry barriers (10%) monopartiynoe majority in parliament, breaking the alliance deal with Israel, Erdogan's government seems to have abandoned in favor of European integration, transformation of their country into a regional superpower, a favorite the Arab world and the surrounding Islamic states. In th
is context, in the middle of September, Erdogan made a tour of the States that only got rid of the oppressive regimes — Tunisia, Libya and Egypt — and gave the keynote speech at the Cairo meeting of the League of Arab States.

In this speech, he joined the calls for renewal, for democracy, for change in the Arab world for the benefit of the masses with sharp attacks in the address of Israel and the U.S., repeating his promise to oppose attempts to force Israel cut off from the sea and the Gaza Strip in favor of immediate recognition of the independence of the Palestinian UN country.

It is easy to predict that after the recognition of such military confrontations at sea off the Gaza Strip will be the inevitable: Palestine finds its adjacent territorial waters, Israel — its, Turkey also send back their warships. A severe collision at sea is now possible without the role of aviation and missile forces. One has only to start — and to suspend large-scale war in the eastern Mediterranean will be impossible. Neuzh that Erdogan believes that it will win? Either he thinks that the beheaded Turkish army orders to fulfill at least some of the claims for state top to become a regional superpower and a favorite of the Islamic world?
